KAITLYN POV

It was court day. I didn't want to go. Not at all. I was dressed and everything, but I hadn't gone to the courthouse. Instead, I went to the meadow that Liam took me to after our date on Tuesday. I didn't drive. I took the bus.

I sat in the middle with all the flowers surrounding me. I picked a pink one, bringing it to my nose and taking in its scent. It was light and sweet. The flowers calmed me. When ever I would stress out, I would light a scented candle that smelled like flowers. Daisies, tulips, roses. I loved them all.

Just as I was about to pick another flower, I heard someone approaching behind me. I turned to find Liam. He made his way around and stood in front of me. He was in a suit. Black, with a white shirt, and tie.

"Why are you here," I asked, looking back down at the flower in my hand.

"I should be asking you that question. You're supposed to be in court. It starts in fifteen minutes."

"I know. I don't know. I feel like I am going to be sick," I confessed. And I did. I felt nacious. I felt like things weren't going to go the way I wanted them to. My lawyer said I have a very good and convincing case, that I would have no problem getting emancipated. But I had this gut feeling that nothing would work out.

Liam knelt down and tilted my head up so that it was level with his, "Kaitlyn. Baby, you have to go. I know you feel like everything won't work out, but I can guarantee you that they won't for sure if you never show up."

"I'm scared,  Liam. And I have hardly ever been scared like this before. This is the fucking law we are talking about. If I fuck up, who knows what will happen."

"You won't fuck up. Babe, you are going to be fine. If we leave now, we can get there within five minutes. Just trust me."

I hesitated at first, then said, "Okay." Liam kissed me and helped me up. He wrapped his arm around my waist and walked me to his car.

The courthouse was huge. Big and spacious with benches and tables. I walked in, my mother glaring at me because I was late.

"I am so sorry I am late, Your Honor. My boyfriend and I had some car trouble," I lied. I glanced at my mother who I was now seated next to. She was looking at me with a shocked expression and I realized that it was not for lying about car trouble. It was because I had said the word 'boyfriend'. She turned back and saw Liam taking a seat with the rest of the crowd.

"Boyfriend? Liam Payne is your boyfriend? Why did I not know about this?" My mother asked me.

"Mom, this is not the time to talk about this."

She pursed her lips and sat back in her seat.

Then it started. The judge went on and on, making sure that the divorce papers were all signed and approved. Then what I had been anticipating, finally happened.

"Now before we start discussing the custody agreement," the judge started, "I want to call Kaitlyn Sawyer to the stand."

I swallowed, stood up, and walked over to where I was supposed to be seated. My parents looked at me confused, Erin looked at me hopeful, and I could see Liam from across the room giving me a 'good luck' smile.

"Ms. Sawyer, it says here that you requested emancipation?"

"That is correct, Your Honor." I looked back at my parents. They looked pissed off.

"Your statement is convincing. But I want to hear from you, why you feel that you should be emancipated, and gain custody of your sister."

I swallowed again nervously, then spoke, "I will not lie. I love my parents, I really do. But even before the fighting they were hardly ever home. Yes, they both have well paying jobs that require a lot of work, but even I know that their jobs can be scheduled so that there can be some family time planned. All in all, I took care of myself and Erin. We loved it just being the two of us. I have applied for jobs and got calls back for several interviews. I will be in my last year of school, but I can take care of myself. Erin will be attending a boarding school in a week. She will be able to come home to me on her holidays instead of jumping from Mom to Dad. It will be a lot easier for me, in the fact that it is my last year of school, if I can focus on that, and working, and figuring out my future, instead of having to worry about packing for a weekend to stay with one of my parents. And I have some help. I have my boyfriend and my best friend, and they have promised me that they will be there for me and help me when I need it."
