7. Boys Are All Clones

No, they are not! There's this thing called DNA that makes everybody unique. So why are all the boys in stories exactly the same? Why do they look the same? Why do they talk and act in the same way? Why are all their surprise date ideas all the same? Some of them even have the same names!

And I'm not just talking about the main guy character in all the books, I'm talking about all the boys in ONE book. Seriously. There must be a reason why these six boys are best friends and hang out all the time besides the fact that they talk and act in exactly the same way. Giving them different names and hair colour does not make them different characters. How are we supposed to follow a storyline if we can't tell the difference between the characters?

My friendly suggestions:

Maybe Bob likes to ramble, so all his sentences are run-on. John, on the other hand, is shy, so his are all three words long. Fred has a Southern accent. Kristopher likes to say "Dude" a lot. Maybe Patrick has horrible grammar. I don't know, make something up, it can't be that hard.

On another note, the same thing applies to girls. Not all girls are high-pitched and love to gossip and are always practicing for a future matchmaking career. (But more on that later.)
