CHAPTER FIVE
I placed the chopped potatoes back to the refrigerator after Jack went upstairs to get settled. He also had his thorough check up of my house and I watched him do all of it. Axl had followed him everywhere.
This was weird.
Losing interest in cooking, I went back to my room and changed my clothes. I wore my cashmere blouse partnered with a tight fitting jeans and open tied black pumps. I pulled my hair in a tight pony tail, took my bag and keys.
Meow.
"I need to get out Axl."
Meow. Meow.
I sighed, crouched down and petted my ever loving but whiny cat. "I'm sorry baby, but momma need to talk to a human being right now. I enjoy arguing with you but I need someone a little bit more sensible than both you and I. Okay? I'm gonna be back real soon." I kissed his nose and went out of my room.
"Where are we going?" Jack asked from behind me and I whirled to see him standing casually, leaning at the door frame of the guest room.
We? Oh yeah I forgot he's my private bodyguard. Ugh.
"At the hospital." I said and walked past him down the staircase. He followed suit.
"I thought you're on a leave?" He asked and stopped me by snagging my arm. I winced because it was the arm connected to my bad shoulder. He saw me wince and he quickly dropped my arm.
"I'm sorry. I forgot about the gunshot wound." He said with tight jaw and I smiled at him, brushing it off.
I carefully rolled my shoulder and shrugged, "It's okay, almost healed but a little tender. I have an appointment with my friend, Melissa Norman."
He nodded, "Ah, the surgeon."
I raised an eyebrow.
"I did a research about you, part of the protocol." He said and I nodded, because what else could I say? Because of Motreal I sort of lost most of my privacy and freedom.
Damn him all to hell.
"Okay. That's totally breaching my privacy but okay." I am doing this so dad could get sleep every night, remember!
He grinned, shaking his head as though he thought I was totally amusing. I rolled my eyes, we went out and I closed the door. The alarm panel beeped.
I looked at him sharply to make a point.
"It's easy to disarm." He said and I rolled my eyes again.
"Whatever."
He has a huge car. I looked at him, wondering if he planned on following me hot on my heels towards the hospital.
He answered my unasked question, "It's either you mount my car, or we drive your car. That's the only choice you got sweetheart."
He never called me any pet names before, why start now? That was one thing that changed about him. He was more cocky than ever, more ruggedly handsome, but he still smile easily.
"My car, then." I said and opened my garage. He eyed my convertible and made a face at me.
I laughed, "Who said I'm gonna make it easy for you, cowboy?"
Something changed in his eyes and in the way he looked at me that made my tummy flip over. He shook his head and the feeling immediately vanished.
Smirking, we sped down the lane.

"He is Jackson Matthews?" Mel whispered yelled across the diner table. Her eyes were glued to the man sitting next to our table.
