CHAPTER FOUR
I woke up from my usual nightmares and placed my head between my knees, breathing deep and slow. Tears smeared my cheeks and I wiped it away. Alex and I had built a routine, adjusting to my sleeping habits. He would always return to sleep after we both wake up from my screaming.
I remembered apologizing furiously the first time he woke up from my screaming and he brushed it off, kissing me deep. "Babe, you don't have to apologize for anything. Understood? Now, let's get back to sleep."
"I couldn't. After I wake up from my nightmare I couldn't go back to sleep."
He stared at me, his eyes still half closed from sleep. "Okay," he yawned, "let's get up early then."
"Are you serious?" I asked unbelievingly.
"Of course. I set the coffee maker last night." He said making a move to get out from the bed.
"No, Alex. You slept late last night and your class is not until 8 am. You go back to sleep." I told him and we stared at each other.
"Are you sure?" He asked, yawning again. I smiled at him and kissed his scruff.
"Yeah honey, I don't want to disturb your sleeping pattern."
Technically, we weren't living together. There were nights when he slept with me in my bed and there were times when I went in his house. We developed that normalcy together and now that he's gone... How am I gonna go back to just being with myself?
When my breathing returned to normal, I swung my feet over the edge of my bed and blindly looked for my bunny slippers. Every girl need a fluffy bunny slippers, right?
Axl perked up from his sleep, stared at me with his yellow cat eyes before he returned back to his kitty dreamland. I missed Alex. With a heavy heart, I padded to my bathroom and washed my face.
I changed my nightie to my jogging pants and sports bra. I put a hoodie over my sports bra and went down to the kitchen for my first dose of coffee. My house has two floors, the first floor has the living room, kitchen and laundry room while the master bedroom is up on the second floor together with two other smaller bedrooms. The first bedroom, I converted into my office/library while the second one was the guest room.
Unplugging my iPod from its dock, I went out to go to my run. I usually completed four laps every morning and by that time I would be sweating like a pig but today I pushed myself to two more laps just to keep my mind off things. Jason Derulo was asking me to take him to the other side when I sat exhausted at the bench in the small playground near my hood.
I rested there for a few minutes, just focusing on my breathing then decided to run my way back home. My mind was blissfully blank when I locked my door behind me and returned my iPod to its dock. I placed it on shuffle and the house was filled with Nickleback's songs.
I was on my faded Levis shorts and a gray tank top, my hair was on a loose knot atop my head and was cutting potatoes when the door bell rang.
I frowned, expecting no visitors at all. The door bell rang again and I sighed, wiped my hand on my apron and removed before I trotted towards my door. It was just seven in the morning.
When I opened the door and I saw familiar bright blue eyes looking back at me. I took a step back as my jaw slackened.
Jackson Matthews was standing at my door and he wasn't the boy I remembered so vividly in my memory. He was a man now, the Jackson who was standing in front of me was already an unmistakable man.
And he was more gorgeous than ever.
And what exactly was he doing outside my door?
The corner of his lips tugged upward and I realized I was staring. I snapped my mouth shut and met his eyes again. He was looking at me with an amused expression.
