ALEXANDER'S POV

LUNCH PERIOD

I stopped at my locker to grab my lunch money with my two new friends, Lafayette and Hercules. Then we went into the bustling cafeteria filled with students talking, eating, and showing each other dumb videos on their phones. We went through the line, got some inedible looking spaghetti, and went over to a table in the very back left corner.

Soon we were joined by 3 girls who introduced themselves as Angelica, Eliza, and Maria. We were all talking and eating, me mostly just eating, when a short girl wearing a yellow crop top began walking towards us, and following right behind her was the same super cute boy who I'd slammed into in the hallway earlier.

"Excuse me." I tried to get up and leave to finish my lunch in the bathroom, far away from this boy I couldn't stop thinking about when Lafayette grabbed my hand and pulled me back down to sit at the table.

"I know you slammed into that boy earlier, and I saw how you looked at him, mon ami. You're not leaving this table." He turned to surprise Hercules with a kiss to distract the others from the fact that he was scooting away from me to make space for the boy.

"Hi guys!" Said Peggy cheerfully as she sat down to the left of me, the space for the boy still empty on the right, where Laff had previously been sitting "This is John Laurens, but I personally like calling him Laurens."

"You're such a weirdo, Pegs." Laurens laughed, which sent my heart fluttering. How could he be so chill and so cute?

"I like calling him Freckles." Said Maria in a flirty tone.

He rolled his eyes and looked around the full table, seeming to be searching for any spot other than the one next to me -- he must hate me already-- but he finally, grudgingly took the space without even giving me a side glance.

LAURENS' POV

Peggy finished giving me a short tour of the school filled with laughs and jokes. I just met her, but we were already best friends. She led me to a table with the three girls I had met earlier, two boys I had seen in class but hadn't talked to yet, and, oh god, the super cute boy who had spilled coffee all over me.

As we were walking over, one of the boys I hadn't met yet kissed the other, taking me by surprise. So I guess I wasn't the only gay one here. The thought made me smile.

"You're gay?" Peggy stopped in the middle of the lunch room and smiled at me.

"What? How can you tell--I mean--uhhh---no!--Well.." I stammered.

"I can tell by the way you're looking at the new kid, oh and you just mumbled 'I'm glad I'm not the only one' out loud." She laughed.

"Oops! Well, yeah, I'm gay as heck." I laughed, relieved she wasn't homophobic like some people I personally know...

"Well, I am too. I think. I'm not sure yet." She continued walking cheerfully like we hadn't had the conversation at all.

We got to the table and me and Peggy exchanged playful remarks until I realized there was nowhere to sit but right next to the cute boy. I looked everywhere, hoping for another spot to sit. I was so worried to embarrass myself next to him, but I noticed that he saw me glance around for another spot and that worried me to the point where I immediately sat next to him. I hoped he didn't think I hated him, because it was the opposite.

I could feel my feelings growing for him every second that I sat there, and when he accidentally brushed my shoulder with his hand, I could hardly hide my blushing.

"So I'm Lafayette and this is my very gay -- for me -- boyfriend, Hunkules." Said the boy I hadn't met until now.

"Hi, as you know I'm Laurens, I'm also very gay." It slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it, and once it had I regretted it immidiately.

Everyone laughed it off casually, except for the cute boy next to me who I noticed blushed slightly. Could it be? Was he also gay? Maybe bi? Or was he just homophobic...?

ALEXANDER'S POV

He's gay. He's gay! I actually have a shot with him! I let myself think that for a few moments before realizing that I was too small and too fat for anyone to ever love me. Especially this super cute, handsome, nearly six foot tall beautiful boy with eyes like emeralds...

Soon lunch was over and all of us, Lafayette, Hercules, Angelica, Eliza, Peggy, Maria, and Laurens were headed to biology. We went to our lockers only to be greeted by a semi-cute boy- -not really my type- -, and his shorter little friend. The boy had an afro and was wearing a purple v-neck, while his little friend sneezed. (A/N: Idk why I keep saying little friend ahahaha)

"Hey guys, we're back from France! Our flight was supposed to come in at six this morning but we just got here and hurried to school because he didn't want to skip." The tall boy glared lovingly at the shorter one and I realized he was obviously off the market. Was everyone in the lgbtq community here? I mean, it's fine. Less people to bully me. I shuddered for a moment, thinking about my old school.

"Thomas! James! I thought you guys weren't showing up today!" Everyone except me and Laurens rushed over to greet them.

We stood there awkwardly. "It seems like everyone is gay here." I forced a laugh and realized I sounded a bit homophobic. "Not that-- the--there's--anyth--anything wrong wi-- with that." I quickly stammered and began blushing furiously.

"I know man, but its great since that means there's less likely to be bullying." Laurens smiled at me understandingly.

I blushed. "That's exactly what I was thinking." I moved a little closer to him at the same time as he moved closer to me. We bumped into each other and both laughed. I stumbled and tripped because I get clumsy when I'm nervous and he caught me quickly, seconds before I hit the ground.

Our eyes locked. It's like time froze, everything around us went silent. It was just me and him. I gazed at his beautiful freckles and his broad nose. My eyes made their way to his lips. I stared for a moment and leaned in.

LAURENS' POV

Alexander is so cute. And now's my chance to get to know him better. The whole gang is distracted by "Thomas and James".

He stammered his way through a sentence so I tried to reassure him as much as possible. We both moved closer to each other at the same time, which made us laugh. But I accidentally had moved too fast apparently, because suddenly he was falling backwards toward the ground.

I swooped forward and put my arm around him, keeping him from being hurt. I was about to help him stand upright when I met his gaze. His beautiful dark eyes seemed to see right into my soul, and I watched as he slowly looked at my freckles and then made it down to... my lips. We both leaned in at once and our noses booped together. We both giggled, I was worried my chance had been ruined, but I took a deep breath and leaned in again. Alexander instantly put his lips against mine.
