The Ring

JOHN'S POV

I woke up with Alex curled up in my arms, actually asleep for once. I gently pushed him off of me, but he immediately scooted over to me again.

"Hey, Alex. I have to go do something with the Schuylers and Maria. I'll be back soon." I whispered gently. 

Alex didn't move, so I picked him up and scooted him over. I quietly showered and got dressed, and when I walked back in the room he was still asleep, which was crazy to me.  Even with therapy, he's still been sleeping only 5 or 6 hours a night, and always wakes up before me.

I drove to the local jewelry store, and met Peggy, Angelica, Eliza, and Maria there. We all went in.

"Hello, welcome. What are you looking for today?" Asked the older woman behind the glass, jewelry filled counter.

"An engagement ring." I replied.

"One that's not too fancy, but still pretty." Added Eliza.

The woman nodded and took out a box of rings after a moment, setting them on the counter. 

"So, who's the lucky lady?" The woman asked after a few minutes of us oohing and aahing over the rings.

"It's for my boyfriend." I said to the woman, sounding a bit harsher than intended.

"Oh, well then you shouldn't be shopping for a ring." Said the lady angrily.

I raised my eyebrows. "Excuse me?"

"You need to find a woman to get a ring for before you buy one." The lady glared at me. (oof)

"Actually, I don't need to, because I love my boyfriend very much." I glared back intensely.

The woman took the box of rings off the counter. "I'm afraid we won't be able to sell to you. I'm not endorsing a sinful wedding." 

"Are you kidding me?" I exclaimed.

"No, I am not, sir. You need to leave now." She said angrily.

"Gladly." I said, flipping her off as I stormed out of the store, Peggy and Eliza following me.

We looked back inside through the glass doors. Angelica and Maria were making out, to the horror of the woman inside. We all burst out laughing, and we couldn't hear but we could tell the woman was screaming at them. Finally, they ran out, giggling and holding hands.

We drove to another ring store, and this time a man was behind the counter.

"Hello, and welcome! What type of ring are you looking for today?" He asked.

"I'm looking for an engagement ring for my boyfriend." I said.

"Something simple, yet elegant." Added Angelica.

"Silver or gold?" He asked me.

"Silver." I replied. The man searched around under the counter for some rings, and emerged a moment later.

We all looked at the rings and narrowed it down to two. One was a thin silver band with three small diamonds embedded in it, the other was a slightly thicker one with a bigger diamond. 

"Which one do you guys think is better?"

"The thin one." said Peggy and Maria at the same time as Angelica and Eliza said, "The thicker one."

"Not to intrude, but I personally like the thinner one." Added the man behind the counter.

"Me too." I decided. I paid for it and he put it in a black velvety box.
