LAURENS' POV

After Alex and I got dressed, we went back downstairs to watch the chaos unfold.

"It's 5:30!" Shrieked Peggy, who had finally found her other heel.

"Which means...?" I asked, just to give her a hard time.

"WE NEED TO LEAVE AT 5:40!" She yelled at me.

"Oh, whoops I think it will take me about 30 minutes to get ready." Joked Alex, following me in my attempts to make Peggy go insane.

"Oh, shut up you two!" Called Eliza from the other room sternly.

We laughed as Peggy glared at us and ran away muttering about picking out a handbag.

Angelica and Eliza walked over to us after a few minutes, ready to go.

"PEGGATHA! Get down here, it's time to go!" Yelled Angelica.

"What the hell, my name is Peggy!" Called Peggy as she walked down the stairs holding a light yellow handbag that perfectly matched her flowy dress.

We all piled into Peggy's bright yellow vintage car. She was driving, Eliza was in the passenger seat and Angelica, John, and I all smushed into the backseat.

ALEXANDER'S POV

We pulled up to the fancy Italian restaurant and all 5 of us were bouncing up and down excitedly at this point. Peggy had parked next to a small, sparkly, red car with a few dents in the side, which Maria had just stepped out of, looking stunning in a bright red form-fitting dress and her hair done up in an elegant bun. Wow, I've been spending too much time with Herc.

But no one looked more stunning than John, who I couldn't keep my eyes off of. He noticed as we were sitting down at our large table and giggled quietly.

I looked down and blushed, but he gently lifted my chin back up and kissed me on the cheek.

"Calm down, you two." Said a French voice.

"It was an innocent peck on the cheek!" Said John defensively, making everyone at the table chuckle.

We all ordered fancy things, I barely could pronounce what I ordered but luckily Angelica saved me since she had been raised on these fancy dishes.

I honestly have no idea what I ordered, but it was pretty good. We were all talking cheerfully, and I couldn't help but notice Herc looked nervous. I shot him a reassuring smile and he responded by raising his eyebrows as if to ask me, "How do you know?" I gestured to the Schuyler sisters and realization dawned on his face.

It was funny, everyone knew Lafayette was going to be proposed to except for Lafayette, which was a good thing I suppose.

We were all getting more and more excited and nervous for Herc as dinner went on. Finally Laff blurted out, "I feel like you all are hiding something from moi!" Laff playfully swooned, "Hercule va-t-il me proposer quelque chose?" He joked with me.

Everyone raised their eyebrows at me and I just shrugged. Laff eyed me suspiciously.

We had all finished our dessert, and we were chatting happily when Herc suddenly clapped his hands together, making us stare at him excitedly and expectantly.

"Hey guys, I have something important to say."

We nodded him on and he blushed ever so slightly and turned to Laff.

"Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette, Marquis de La Fayette, I love you so much." Laff gasped, he already seemed to know what was happening. "I've loved you ever since I went on that short trip to France and met you in that tiny, cozy cafe. My love only grew for you as we messaged each other over the next few months, and I was over the moon with happiness when you moved to America to be with me. I was so excited when you showed up on my doorstep one day - despite your slight distress and disarray - and asked to move in with me. I will never stop loving you, Laff, so I decided," Herc got down on one knee, taking a small black velvet box out of his jacket pocket, and Laff burst into happy tears. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Marquis de La Fayette, will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?"
