He hated this. He hated that he had to be so far away from you. He hated that he had to pretend to hate you and the team. He hated everything about it. But he had to in order to take them down. He had to play the lap dog for the greater good.

He sighed to himself as he was mentally preparing for what has to come.

"K-Kaulder?" He froze when he heard your voice. Scared. Uncertain. A lot of what he didn't like. He turned to face you and he didn't like that look on your face either. He wanted to hold you and tell you everything was gonna be okay. He wanted to see your beautiful smile that could light a dark room in an instant.

He was brought out of his thoughts when you walked up to him and wrapped your arms around him. He returned the gesture. "You're going away?" You asked, though it sounded more like a statement than a question. "Yes. I wish I didn't have to leave at all, but in order to take them down, I have to go undercover for a while." He spoke softly, as if he didn't as if you would break.

In all honesty, you felt like you would. Your best friend was going to be your enemy for God knows how long. You didn't want to imagine what you would be saying to each other when you crossed paths. You didn't want to imagine that you had to hurt him and that he had to hurt you. You didn't want to imagine or experience any of this. You just wanted your best friend.

He sighed, eyebrows furrowed together in concern. "(Y/N), before I go, may I tell you something?" You looked up at him and nodded. "Of course, you know you can tell me anything." He ran a hand through your hair, contemplating how he was going to say what he wanted to. He decided to just say it exactly as it was.

"I love you, (Y/N). And when I get back maybe we could. . ." He began, slowly growing anxious. You bit back tears both of joy and sadness. "I love you too, don't you dare forget that either."

He let out a dry chuckle, "Believe me when I say I never will." He kissed you tenderly, slightly tightening his arms around your waist as you wrapped your arms around his neck. Before anything could get heated, you pulled away. "You owe me a date when you get back." You muttered, making him laugh a little. "Of course. I will make it up to you for all that I might have to do." He said sadly. You pulled him down for another short kiss before letting go and walking with him to the zeta tubes where Robin would be waiting.

"Bout time, we have a show to get on the roll." Kaulder squeezed both of your hands before letting them go and disappearing into the zeta tubes. Saying goodbye was the hardest thing you've had to do so far.
