Chapter 4: The New Order

Alex nodded and stood up. It was finally time to explain everything and for some reason, that made her quite nervous.

"As you probably already figured out, my name is Alexandra Mikaelson and I'm Rebekah's miracle baby. But don't worry Hope, I'm not quite on your level. I'm only a hybrid, the only one of my kind actually. I'm half vampire, half witch."

"That is not possible." Kol was the first to interrupt, but considering his long history and relationship with witches, this did not surprise the brunette who was explaining herself. "It goes against the very nature of being a witch."

"That is where the whole miracle baby term comes in handy." Alex countered quickly. "As you all should know, there are supernatural loopholes all over the place. My mother was just smart enough to find one." She said looking at Rebekah with a small smile. Her mother was truly a smart one.

"That still doesn't explain why you're here." Elijah said, skeptical on the appearance of the young woman in front of him, who claimed to be part of his adored family. He did not take such a statement lightly, and so he needed to know more.

"I'm getting there. You all are just not very patient."

"That is the understatement of the year." Keelin finally spoke, making Alex smile in remembrance of how much she liked her werewolf aunt.

"When you and Klaus died, the whole supernatural world was shaken, people who lived in fear of you two finally came out of hiding and believed themselves rulers of the world. It was a new era not only for the remaining Mikaelsons, but for the whole world."

"How foolish." Klaus commented, but after Hope elbowed his side, he decided to remain silent.

"This lasted for about 2 years, then, very powerful beings decided to form an association called the 'New Order'. This system classified every supernatural being according to their power and the possible threat they represented to society. It wasn't a surprise that the rest of the Mikaelsons were high on that list, what was indeed surprising was when they started keeping a close eye on these individuals and the second they did something the 'New Order' didn't like, they were eliminated." Alex explained solemnly, remembering how many people she'd seen dying.

"As in...Killing them?" Hope asked.

"Yes." Alex said "It felt like the holocaust all over again. Only this time not a long period of time went by before people realized it was wrong and wanted to do something about it."

"I am to assume that included you." Elijah commented with a small smile, knowing that any child raised by his lovely sister was to have a rebel streak to them.

"Only when my mom wasn't looking," Alex said with a charming smile. "She didn't want me involved in any of it, and as a good teenager, I was to go against her wishes. Especially after I found out about you two." She said looking at Elijah and Klaus.

"But what happened then? Because we had an agreement Lex! And even if you're in the future now, it still stands." Rebekah said.

"I'm here because you got taken away, mom. Once they found out about me and how I came to be, they took you away."

"But you're still breathing, so that must mean that I'm still alive!" Rebekah said, almost cheerfully, confusing pretty much everyone on how lightly she was taking the news.

"Yes Rebekah, but for how long? If you could see what they did to everyone we cared about, to Keelin, to Davina, to Marcel, Landon...To Caroline."

"What did they do to Caroline?" Klaus was fast to react.

"She was running a school full of children with supernatural abilities, they thought she was building an army. Klaus...She..." Alex had to take a deep breath "She's gone." She said looking straight at her hybrid uncle with pity written in her eyes. "I'm sorry."

Klaus felt like he couldn't breathe, although a part of his brain insisted that this was supposed to happen in the future, he couldn't stand the thought of Caroline being hurt, or worse, dead. Gone, forever.
