Alex didn't know how the rest of the night was for the other Mikaelsons, but once her mother was satisfied with the room she had picked in the compound and was done pointing out all the things she could do to make it more her style, she bid her goodnight and after making a few arrangements over a phone call with Julian, she fell into a deep sleep.
The brunette girl was not sure of how much she had slept, but the next thing she was aware of, was a very loud exchange of words that pulled her from her peaceful slumber rather abruptly.
At first, she thought it was just her imagining things, so not too worried she stretched slightly in her comfortable bed before the sound of a vase breaking made her jump out her bed and move towards the source of the noise.
"...Then why? Dearest sister, did you keep your daughter a secret from us?" She heard Klaus' voice booming as she walked closer to the library in the compound, and the tone he used made her pick up her pace.
Not unlike the newest inhabitant in the house, Hope, Elijah and Freya had heard all the ruckus and were making their way towards the other two Mikaelsons as well, worried of where their little fight could get.
"You know exactly why Nik, it was the same reason why you sent Hope away with me when she was born. I just wanted something better for her." Rebekah stood up for her past decisions. She knew there would come a day where she would have to explain herself, but after the big event that was supposed to occur the night before, she had some hope that it wouldn't have to come to this. She had been a fool.
"She's supposed to be family!!" He yelled. "Families are there for each other!"
"She's only a child!" Rebekah said, and by that time everyone was running into the room, which had been messed up by what they assumed was the blonde vampire trying to dodge her brother's attacks.
"A child that can hear everything that's going on, thank you very much." Alexandra noted as she stood by her shaky mother on the opposite side of the room as Klaus. "What the hell is going on?" She asked.
"Just a small discussion between siblings, love. Nothing you need to worry about." Klaus said nonchalantly, but never took his eyes off Rebekah.
"Niklaus, what is the meaning behind this unnecessary attack on our sister?" Elijah demanded, noticing for the first time the silver dagger that Klaus was trying to hide behind his back. He knew that he had to thread carefully with Klaus whenever he was in a mood and had those godforsaken daggers in his power.
"She lied to us, Elijah! She was willing to let us die when she saw how desperate we were to save Hope's life. She had the solution to our problems in her hands the whole time, and she hid it from us! Because of her, I almost lost my daughter!" Klaus yelled as he pointed at Rebekah with the silver dagger, and with tears in his eyes, the gravity of his words settled on the room.
"She didn't know." Alexandra was the first to break the silence and had most of them not had supernatural hearing they wouldn't have been able to hear her words.
"What?" Freya asked, being the only one with human senses in the room, she couldn't really hear what Alex had said.
"I said she didn't know. She wasn't aware that I had the power to save them, not until it was too late." The brunette girl clarified.
"But yesterday...You said..." Hope tried remembering the conversation that had taken place the night before "You said that she was just going to let them go."
Alex sighed, wanting to kick herself for being so irrational when she spoke sometimes. "I know." She admitted. "I was angry at her for not giving me the chance to try and fix it, for not letting me be part of the solution when everyone else in our family was trying to save you, to save them. But the truth is that my mother had no way of knowing that I could help in any way until months after they were both gone." She explained looking at everyone in the room, feeling ashamed of her words from the night before. "And let me make something very clear, she was devastated for weeks after finding out the truth. It also didn't help that I was such a bitch to her about it either." She said reaching to hold her mother's hand and giving it a strong squeeze.
Rebekah might not have been aware of everything the grown-up version of her daughter was telling her just yet, but she knew that if that was the case, she would have felt horrible about the whole ordeal. They were her brothers after all, she loved them dearly.
"How come neither of you knew the extent of your powers?" Elijah asked and Alex sighed ready to give another explanation.
"Does this mean that the celebratory breakfast is off?" Alex groaned slightly and threw her head back, answering a question with a completely different one, she really wanted to try those beignets. That one gesture brought a slight smile to the oldest Mikaelson in the room, remembering that Rebekah herself used to protest in the same manner when she didn't get her way.
"I guess it would do us some good to sit down and have a proper family conversation." Elijah said looking at Klaus, who still looked murderous.
"Are you really suggesting we sit down and discuss such an important matter over some tea and pastries? She still lied to us! Again!" Klaus retorted.
"And I would do it again if it ensured her safety." Rebekah stood her ground proudly. Shoulders squared and chin up, ready for whatever was to come her way.
Klaus was about to move towards her when Hope decided to intervene.
"Dad, enough!" His daughter said, and for a moment he felt embarrassed that she was a witness to the situation. "Tell me you wouldn't have done the same thing if it was me. Or if you would have thought about punishing mom if she tried." Hope moved to stand in front of Rebekah and Alex, and the room once more became completely silent.
The loss of Hayley was still fresh to everybody, but they all knew that Hope (and Elijah) took it the hardest. The fact that it was his own daughter the one to bring her into the conversation was astonishing for him, and he had no other option but to stand down.
"We'll give you a moment to recompose yourself Niklaus, whenever you're ready, we'll be waiting downstairs." Elijah said and gestured everyone in the room to leave his brother alone. Even if he wouldn't admit it, Klaus thanked him for giving him space. It was in times like these that he so desperately needed Elijah to be the voice of reason.
However, right before Alex left the room, she looked down at her watch and stopped for a second. "I made arrangements for Caroline to join us this morning, she was still in town and I thought she needed to be present, just a heads up." She said casually and closed the door after herself, leaving a stunned Klaus trying to get his thoughts in order.
