"Oh my God..." Alex said as she tried her very first beignet. All the waiting had been worth it, for it was such a heavenly pastry. Rebekah couldn't help herself but fondly smile at the grown-up version of her daughter.

All the Mikaelsons were finally gathered around their dining table. Some, such Hope, Kol, Davina, and Alex herself, tried to enjoy the vast selection of breakfast foods that Elijah had compelled for them that morning. On the other hand, Klaus was sitting at the head of the table, shooting daggers at Rebekah who awkwardly sat next to a stoic Marcel, while Elijah sat on the opposite end of the table sipping tea, his eyes never leaving Klaus' figure, making sure that he was not to harm anyone on the table.

"Can we just get this over with?" Klaus in all his grumpy glory demanded. Shaking off all the memories from the night before, where they sat at that same table and enjoyed a rather good time, thinking it would be the last time.

"Niklaus, there is no need to interrupt the others from having something to eat and have all this food go to waste, I would recommend you at least try out the beignets." Elijah suggested calmly, making the big bad hybrid roll his eyes.

"This is nonsense Elijah, yesterday shecame barging in, talking about how we didn't have enough time to be wasting, yet here we are, enjoying pastries and coffee without a care in the world." The Original hybrid pointed out sarcastically, and boy did he have a good point.

However, that didn't stop pretty much everyone else sitting at that table, almost all used to his antics, to roll their eyes and continue trying to eat.

"You see Klaus, I personally think it's kind of odd that living in this city for so long, you still don't think that having a beignet can make any bad situation at least a little bit better." A certain blonde vampire commented as she walked into the room, getting everyone's attention and rendering the hybrid speechless for a moment.

Seeing her there, alive and well, managed to calm the deep anxiety that had been growing in his chest since the night before. She was okay, for now.

"Caroline!" Alex jumped out of her chair and ran to the headmistress of the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, trapping her in a hug and making her laugh in the process.

"Gosh, I'm still not used to seeing you so..."

"Mature?" Alex tried out, batting her lashes innocently and Caroline couldn't help herself but shake her head with a smile.

"I was going to say tall, but I guess that works too." She said and then focused her attention back on the room full of people, especially certain hybrid that was very confused about the familiarity between the two women standing in front of them. That was yet another thing he had to add to his ever-growing list of questions.

"Good morning Caroline, have you had breakfast yet?" Rebekah was the first one to greet her after her daughter.

"I most certainly have, but I will have some coffee, thank you." The other blonde smiled and took the only empty seat on the table, that just so happened to be next to Klaus. The big bad hybrid was still trying to calculate when was the exact moment that Caroline and Rebekah decided to be polite to each other, remembering their never-ending competition back in Virginia when they all first met.

"Lovely to see a familiar face every once in a while." Kol added with a smug smirk, remembering the blonde vampire and all of her annoying friends from his previous visit to Mystic Falls.

"Likewise, Kol. It's good to see that you've found someone that helps you occupy your time a little less...sadistically." Caroline retorted with a charming smile and sipped her coffee, making Klaus and Rebekah smile slightly. She was not one to be messed with, and that was a lesson Kol would learn in time.

"I do have to agree with my annoying little brother, love. It is most delightful to see you again. This time under somewhat better circumstances." Klaus said recovering from his distracting thoughts and looking at her straight in the eye. She knew that he was referring to the last time they saw each other, just the night before, before she thought he was going to be gone forever, to that kiss they shared. That terrible goodbye that left her heart shattered once more, and that relief that she felt when she got that call that let her know he was still alive.

She blushed slightly when she remembered the smile on her face that she hadn't been able to wipe off since getting that phone call.

"I'm quite happy to be here as well." She said sincerely "But as everyone else, I would really like to know what's going on." She went from casual to business quite fast.

At that point everyone was either finished or almost done with the food, so after Elijah had the compelled helpers take away most of the plates from the table, they all turned to see Alexandra.

"Okay then..." The young brunette said standing up. "I guess we are all here now." She said as she looked around the room, making sure that indeed, everyone in her family was present and ready to hear what was to happen next. "Let's begin."
