Chapter 11

Cassidy 's POV

...I'll have to go through the front door

I approached the front door cautiously. I took a deep breath and placed my hand on the doorknob, I twisted the knob and I jumped back in surprise when I felt the impact of a beer bottle hit the door and shatter. I stumbled back, falling backwards down the the front steps. Brushing off my backside I sighed,  I can't do this.

I hung my head in defeat and humiliation, "I'm a wimp." I mumbled angerly. I turned around and began walking back to the lot.

Johnny's POV

"Cassie! Cass!" I yelled after her. I watched her run until she was out of eye shot, I groaned sitting down on the old couch with my head in my hands.

"She was pregnant?" I looked up from my hands at Pony.

I sighed, "Yeah." I said gruffly, shutting my eyes tightly I was trying my best not to cry.

"Who is he?" I took a deep breath and looked at Pony, a few tears slipping out. "Our father. I told you he is very abusive and-"

"He raped her?" Pony asked rage filling his voice.

I swallowed, "Yeah... And there was nothing I could do about it!" I balled my fists in anger, " I shouldn't have yelled at her, now she's gone. The last time she was home without me she got raped, I gotta go see if she's okay! Pony you get on home. "

"What?! Why?"

"It's getting late, Darry's probably wonderin' where you are. "

He grumbled something about Darry and ran off.
I wiped my eyes and bolted towards my house hoping and praying that she's okay.

I turned at the park and ran into a figure, I fell back then quickly got up and brushed myself off. I began to run, "Johnny!"
I stopped puzzled, that sounds like Cass. I turned around... and the figure I ran into, was Cassie!

"Cassie?" I was surprised to see her and overjoyed that she was okay, but my expression changed when I saw that she had a scraped elbow and the other was bleeding.

"Cass" I said seriously. I ran to her and helped her up, she winced as her elbows moved.

"Look Johnny, I'm sorry I-"

I hugged her, avoiding her arm and elbows," I'm sorry" I apologized.

I took a deep breath, pulled away to make eye contact and began to confess, " I shouldn't have yelled at you and  I'm sorry for swearing at you. It's just... I really care about you and when you brought up what they do\did to you, it hurts me because I shouldn't let that happen. " Tears began to slip away.

"Johnny-" she started, tears threatening to escape as well.

"No, I'm not finished. And the reason the gang was always hovering over you when you got hurt is because they care too."

"Dally doesn't." She mumbled.

"Dally don't care about no one... That's what makes him tough."

She nodded, "but you don't have to care what Dal' thinks." I concluded.

"Where's Pony?"

"I told him to get on home, it's getting late."

I embraced her in another hug, "Come on. Let's go lay down."

She wiped her eyes, "Alright."

We walked back to the lot and layed down, as soon as Cassie layed down she yawned her eyes were closed but she was not yet asleep.

I draped a blanket over her and layed next to her. I pulled her close to me and began to play with her long chestnut hair, "Cassie?"

She hummed, "Mhm"

"I love you."

" I love you too. " She yawned.

"And I promise... From here on out, I will always be here for you."
