Kurtis in a mood. It's one of nature's weird things. He just had a double period of English literature and he's just generally not happy anymore. After that period was maths but barely anything happens there so it's nothing fascinating or important.
Lunch came around and he dragged his grumpy, slightly sick self to the library to meet Martha and Alice. The latter was in a strangely good mood.
"Ahh. There's my first male friend"
Groooaaan Slumps onto the chair
"Ahh. Martha, He has beached whale syndrome"
"What? What's that?"
"That"
Alice casually gestured to the depressed and annoyed alien on the table.
"I hate everything"
"You and me both, brother"
"I've got a bloody headache. And now I have a booster today. Why the hell is there a booster for English?!"
"Boosters are optional, you know"
"Well according to Ms Roberts it's basically another lesson. She literally can't do that. Boosters are optional so there's never going to be 100% attendance. Treating them like lessons is stupid"
Claudia walked into the conversation and looked down at the troubled boy, then at the two girls.
"What's this?"
"Kurtis is in a mood and hates everything"
"Feels bad, man"
Kurtis groaned and shifted slightly, turning to Martha.
"Would you like to put me in a coma?"
"Umm no!"
"Why though? End my suffering"
"But I don't like hurting people and you're my friend"
"Uhhh fine. Hey Erin"
He turned to her and sighed, rubbing his forehead.
"Put me in a coma"
"No, I need you after school"
"Why do you enjoy my suffering?"
Kurtis buried his face in his bag and tapped his weirdly long, thin fingers on the table, not really making any distinguishable patterns with the sounds. About five minutes of ranting and discussing education, Kurtis found himself more annoyed.
"So, Erin. You're saying you hate French"
"Yeah"
"And you barely try in French"
"Oui"
"So how the a b s o l u t e HELL Are you in the h i g h e r set while I, someone who t r i e s in that subject, am stuck in flipping f o u n d a t i o n?!
"Well..." shrug
"Screw education, I give up"
"That's the worst thing you could do right now"
"I don't care. Screw the system. I hate school now"
It may seem like Kurtis doesn't mean what he's saying and he kinda doesn't but does at the same time. Kurtis literally can't get any better at his subjects than he already is without suffering extreme stress.
Kurtis has a thing called the Triplett syndrome. He's on the very mild side of the spectrum although he still exhibits common symptoms subconsciously, such as sensitive senses, social awkwardness, incapacity to make consistently good jokes, high iq score, taking things literally and identifying patterns easily. It's a horrible pain for him. He can't think or relate to normal people or comprehend anything without feeling he's got something wrong. It's caused a sort of self hatred for Kurtis.
And this isn't normal self hatred you see with the average teenager. He genuinely doesn't like himself. He believes if he met someone exactly like him, they wouldn't be friends and would probably get into a sort of fight. It's not like he appreciates it. He wishes he had the intense ego of Alice or the casual confidence of Claudia but he can't. His mind, to him, is wrong.
After school, he decided to take the quicker route with Alice. He also lied about not having money because he was too tired to buy anything. After Alice was gone, he took the bus route home instead of changing for the tram. It's longer but at least he could sleep. At home, his headache got worse. Not especially bad but annoying. Two pills of paracetamol should do the trick. Kurtis has been taking medicine for himself since last year. Its not really bad because he's quite responsible with these kinds of things. It's not like he'd get addicted or overdose anytime soon.
He's tired right now. He goes to sleep for an hour. That's a healthy amount of napping.
After that nap, it was time to eat. His mother had left some rice in the rice cooker and some beef stew in the fridge. It's a nice meal.
Kurtis took a slightly smaller portion than usual. He wasn't as hungry as usual plus he was trying to be a bit more healthy.
He couldn't be bothered to revise right now. He just wanted to watch Netflix and sleep because life was being a dick to him. Well, either that or he was just really stupid. He couldn't tell at this point nor could he be bothered to think about it. He should be thinking positively right now.
As soon as he turned the TV on, the front door unlocked and he let out a disappointed sigh. His mother and sister were home now. His hour nap had caught up to him. He simply surrendered the remote to his mother and went to eat upstairs in his room. His TV didn't have Netflix but at least it has film4 so he can watch some classic movies while eating. As for his room, it was kinda small and bland. He only moved into the house in December so he was there only a month and a half. He isn't one for a bland room but there are more important things to spend money on than a surreal style wallpaper, like his close friends who he cares about dearly and Fanta Fruit Twist. Maybe Dr Pepper or Sprite.
