The championship game was on and we were home team. I pitched the first two innings.
The first inning was a breeze for me. Lilly was behind the plate more ready than ever. I struck the first two batters out and Lindsay made a diving catch in center field.
As the game progressed, the score was 7-6 for them. The game halted for ten minutes. As we huddled in the dugout, I saw that Skylar was down on herself. I went over to her.
"What's wrong?" I asked. "I don't think we will win this." She said, sobbing. "You know what that pitcher can do. She's a beast." I looked over and I agreed. There was a new pitcher. She also threw fire. "Listen." I said. "When one person goes down, the rest go down. So smile and stay positive." She sighed. "I guess we can do this." She said lightening up a little. We both smiled.
The game was back on and I was up to bat. It was two outs in the final inning and it was do or die for me. The coach gave me a suicide squeeze. There was Gabby on third and Shannon on second. I fouled the first one. Then the coach called me over. "Listen, Madi." Coach Neil said. "I want you to come out of your shoes." I nodded and stepped into the batters box.
I took a deep breath as she went into her windup. I was feeling my eyes glowing yellow as I swung the bat. It soared over the center fielder's head and hit the bottom of the fence. I got a triple out of it, hitting in the winning run.
I looked at the scoreboard. It was 8-7 for us. The game was over as the time ran out. We had won the summer all star league championship. My teammates ran out onto the field and lifted me up and cheered me on. "You saved the game Madi!" Laura said.
I was happy I did. Actually, "wolfie" saved the game.
