We were back at the hotel eager to hear the standings.

"You did awesome today." Lilly said. "Great pitching and nice home run." "Thanks. You too." I said. "Great throw down. You are a great catcher. You know that?" "Thanks." Said Lilly. "I wonder what seed we are in." "I don't know." I said. "Want to come with me to ask?" "Sure." Lilly said.

We talked to Coach Emma to find our standings. "Hey coach." I said. "Do you know what seed we are in?" She looked at us. "Well, we are in the number one seed because of our runs scored." She said. "We beat the Mass Drifters by a three run difference. They are the number two seed. They are an elite team and they practice 24/7. We managed to get the top seeds rom them." We were excited. "Thanks coach." I said. "Do you know where the rest of the team is?"

"They are in the band room. It's karaoke night." She said. "Why?" "Ooh. I love karaoke." I said. "Thanks coach."

Lilly and I caught up with Laura who gave me a big hug. "Hey guys." Laura said. "Are you guys going to karaoke night?" "Yeah." I said. "Was that even a question?" We all laughed.

The three of us arrived in the band room. "Hey." Lilly said. "I dare you to sing a song." "Oh." I said. "Good idea. What song?" "How about 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol?" Said Laura. "YES!" Lilly said. "I love that song. Don't mess it up Madi."

I was signing up and I saw Shannon, Gabby, and Kelli and they had their eyes fixed on me. I just ignored and put down my name and song I am singing.

The karaoke night went off to a good start. There were good singers here and there. Some players from other teams recognized me and complemented Lilly and me on our performances and we talked for a while. Lilly, Laura and I were laughing when a singer was just goofing around. The singer was fooling with the song as the crowd roared with laughter.

Then a man running the joint came to the stage and announced the next singer. "Next up is Madi Treble singing 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol." He said as I walked up to the stage. He gave me the microphone as I took a deep breath and waited for the song to start. Lilly gave me a thumbs up.

The song started and I soaked into it. I was doing good, until the chorus. That's when I really gave it my all. "🎶If I lay here. If I just lay here. Will you lie with me and just forget the world? Forget what we're told, before we get too old. Show me a garden that's bursting into life.🎶" I sang. I finished strong with a permanent smile on my face. Everyone applauded and screamed. Well, Lilly and Laura screamed the loudest.

I ran off the stage with glee as Lilly and Laura plowed me with hugs. "Oh my god, Madi." Said Lilly. "That was the best performance yet. I loved it. You were amazing!" The man came back on the stage. "Woah." He said. "I think this was the best one so far. I loved it. What about you guys? Did you like it?" The crowd roared. I looked in the crowd and saw Shannon, Kelli, and Gabby silently boo me. I didn't care.

"Now. Up next." He then said. "Is Shannon Healy singing 'Better than Revenge' by Taylor Swift." The crowd applauded. I wonder how this is going to go. I thought.

She was at a strong start, but was shaky in the chorus. I could top that. However, she was glaring at me the whole time. I started to get a little nervous.

When she finished, the crowd applauded. She stormed down the stage and came up to me. "Listen, Madi." She said. "I don't know what you're hiding, but when I find out that you're not one of us I swear, nothing will be pretty." "And that's less likely going to happen missy." I sassed back.
