When practice was over, Laura and I walked out into the parking lot waiting for my mother to pick us up. While I was fixing my catcher's bag, Coach Emma came over to us.

"I was impressed by your skills." She said. "What is your name?" "Madi." I said. "My name is Madi." She smiled at me. "Well, Madi. How would you like to be our main catcher?" She asked. "I'd love to." I said. "But, why?" The coach laughed. "You are an awesome player and you have the confidence and wits of a catcher. You are loud, clear, a beast at blocking, and faster then the average catcher." She said. "It's a little unusual." I was confused about what she said, but then it all came to me. Does she know? I thought.

My mother just pulled in the lot. Laura and I bolted into the car. She was happy. More than I was. "So, girls." My mother said. "How was practice?" Laura was the first to respond. "I am the number one pitcher on the team!!!" She said. "I threw a couple in the dirt though. Madi needed her blocking." "I am the number one catcher." I said. I was not as excited as Laura was because I was worried about myself.

Later that night, Laura spent the night at my house. We were outside on a clear night. The moon was a waxing gibbous, not exactly a full moon, but I get side effects that tell me when the moon is soon to be full. My eyes were about to glow yellow. I collapsed as my knees locked. The first thing she heard come out of me was a scream.

She saw me on the ground. "Are you okay?" She asked. I wasn't at all. I was on the ground groaning in pain. She saw my eyes gleam yellow. "Madi." She said. "Can you hear me?" I could, but I couldn't answer. I was scared and speechless. Don't tell me she found out. I thought, and passed out.

I woke up a half hour later to find myself on the ground with Laura by my side. "Madi!" She said. "What happened there? You had me worried sick. I almost had to get your mother." I breathed heavily. Oh jeez. This can't be good, I thought. I was sure that I was busted. "Oh, I'm sorry." I lied. "This never happens to me. This is very strange. I thought -" She cut me off. "I know what happened at practice." She said. "Your eyes turned yellow when you were blocking. And now when you collapsed, I saw your eyes turn yellow again. It's like one moment your eyes are brown, then a shocking yellow, and back to brown. I mean what's wrong with you?" I couldn't find anything to say, so the first thing I said was, "I don't know." "Well, hopefully it doesn't happen again." She said. "We have our first game tomorrow verses the Bangor Blaze." Yeah. I thought. Hopefully.
