y/n was walking home from school when it started. the panicking, the screaming, the dying. everything had been normal that day, until her walk. the dogs she would pet or say hi to on her walk were skittish or violent seeming. not a single bird was out chirping, and then all the sudden the birds were going crazy. that's when the cars started wrecking and the screams began.

she had been about to cross the street when a car swerved towards the sidewalk. y/n lunged backwards, the car just barely missing her. she crept up to driver's window and sucked in a breath at the sight. it was a teenager, probably a senior at her school, slumped over onto the steering wheel. a pocket knife hung limply from his neck, as blood ran down, staining his white shirt.

y/n blinked rapidly, almost like she was trying to clear the image from her mind. she averted her eyes from the car and hurriedly walked around it, hoping to cross the street and hurry home. that's when she saw the chaos. in the few seconds that the car was blocking her view, things had gone to shit.

cars were piled up at the center of the intersection, and many cars were crashed on the sidewalks nearby. some cars were even wrecked in people's yards. y/n had no idea what was going on, but her common sense knew being close to a busy street when whatever this was was going on wasn't safe. she looked around, assessing her options. she could try to cross and risk getting hit, or she could run down the side street she was standing by and try to find a way home around the intersection.

being the self preservative person she is, y/n decided to be safe and go down the side street. she quickly started running down the street, keeping her head down. later she would thank herself for that. while she was rushing down the street, she heard yelling coming from a house on her left.

"we should bring her in, you know it's not safe out there!" a young sounding voice yelled.

"that's exactly why we can't! we don't know what's going on out there! she could be dangerous!" a different, definitely older male voice replied.

y/n slowed down and looked up at the house. she saw a large group of people inside standing by a window. a boy about her age was staring at an older guy angrily. the boy turned and made eye contact with y/n before gesturing for her to come closer. then he disappeared from the window.

cautiously y/n made her way to the house's porch and was greeted by the boy opening the door and practically yanking her inside before locking the door swiftly. y/n gave him a thankful smile, before turning to look around the house. it was nice, modernly decorated, and pretty big.

"see, she's fine." the boy yelled out.

"sorry about that. he's a bit of a dick. i'm finn." the boy introduced with a suave smile.

y/n smiled back, "it's no problem. i know plenty of dicks." she joked.

"i'm y/n by the way. what's going on." she asked, her whole tone shifting.

finn led y/n into the kitchen where the crowd of people she saw from outside were clustered. there were even more people than she'd originally seen, sitting on the couch or at the table. finn walked straight up to the older guy he'd been arguing with, and turned to y/n.

"this is danny, he's my neighbor." finn explained, gesturing to danny.

"this is y/n." finn said to danny, and y/n smiled, wanting to seem friendly.
