"Sam?" Lena whines through the phone."Lena what's wrong?"
"I'm in the apartment and I wasn't sure about it at the time so I wasn't freaking about but now I feel the contractions and-"
"Are you sure? It's a month early?!?"
"I'm sure Sam. I don't know what to do it's happening so fast and I can't... I need you."
"Okay I'm leaving work right now. I'll call Anne she delivered Ruby perfectly fine. Unless you think you can make it to the hospital?"
"No, I'd rather not risk getting caught by paparazzi or anything."
"Alright Lee hang in there. I'll be there soon."
Twenty minutes later, Sam and the midwife walk in and begins to set up the room in preparation for the birth. Lena did not want this, at least not yet. It is a month too early. She hasn't had the time to tell Kara yet or even decide on what she officially wants to do with the baby. She kept pushing it back, hoping that once the due date came closer that she'd make up her mind by then. Only she didn't have that extra month luxury anymore. However one thing is for sure, she never wants Lex to ever lay his eyes on it. He'd already mentioned on how a great asset this child would be to the new company. It shows that they were family oriented and would attract more consumers. But she didn't want that for the child. She wants for it to have a better life. One full of love and the chance at a happy childhood.
"Hey Lena, how you feeling?" Sam asks, stroking her hair.
"Like my vagina is on fire."
"Yeah well hate to break it to you but this is the easy part." She smirks.
Lena flips up her the middle finger as she immediately clings onto the sheets of the fabric, breathing in pain.
"Anne, how many centimeters is she dilated?" Sam asks the midwife.
"8, almost ready."
"Wow someone's a little excited to meet you. It's all happening so fast."
"Yeah no fucking kidding." Lena curses. "Sam I don't know what to do... I can't have it and raise it by myself. Lex has too much over me and I can't drag an innocent baby into this mess. I was supposed to have another month to figure this out."
"Hey hey hey... I know exactly how you feel.
Remember how panicked I was right before Ruby?" Lena quietly nods as she reaches out for Sam's hand, using it as support. "And it was you who helped me get out of it. You got me on my feet and gave me all I needed to be able to keep her. Now I have the most incredible daughter because of you. There is no doubt in my mind that you won't be able to do this. You're the most amazing person and whatever you decide to do, I'll be by your side." Lena gives her a warm smile as Sam plants a kiss on her sweaty temple."Distract me for a bit. Where's Ruby?"
"I left her with Mrs. Harvey down the hall. She was more than happy to watch her. I'm pretty sure she has empty nest syndrome."
"Oh no she definitely does. I have dinner there at least three times a week now if not more. She's really helped me throughout all of this and never really asked any questions."
The midwife gives both women the cue and Lena grips tightly onto Sam's hand. The pain ran through her body as if it were being set on fire. She did her best to follow the woman's instructions, pushing as she counts down from 10. But she grew tired quickly. One set after another, she feels as if she couldn't continue on. Sam did all she could to encourage the younger girl, wiping her forehead with a cold cloth and allowing her hand to be crushed. Lena couldn't go on for much longer. She is exhausted.
"Come on Lena, almost there, just a few more. Wow someone's really excited to meet you, eyes already open. Those blue eyes are beautiful." The midwife encourages, as Sam reaches back for Lena's hand. Instantly, Lena gathers all the strength she had left and gives it her all. Kara's blue eyes, she's always been a sucker for them.
"There you go Lena, there you go." Sam cheers, as she wipes her forehead.
"Almost there, that's it, keep it going. And look down Mama, look down." The midwife smiles, as she lifts the baby out. As Lena looks down, she sees a small little head full of dark curls and hears a loud cry, echoing around the room.
"And congrats Mama, it's a baby girl. 10:32 PM." The midwife smiles. She stares down at the tiny infant on her chest and immediately falls in love with those little blue orbs. They are just like Kara's.
"You're so beautiful." Lena cries, kissing the top of the baby's head. With the baby still on her chest, she takes a few more deep breaths and continues on delivering the placenta. After everything had been taken care of, the midwife carefully takes the baby off of Lena's chest and cleans her off. She gives Sam permission to cut the chord as she takes a minute to come up with a name.
"And there you go. She's a little on the small side but perfectly healthy. Little miss was just too excited to see the world." Anne smiles, handing her back over to Lena. Sam and the midwife decide to give Lena a little time for herself and walk out of the room.
"Hi my love... I'm your Mommy." Lena whispers. The baby gurgles a little as she looks up at the woman, raising her eyebrows in excitement. "You have your Mama's little crinkle too? Oh you're going to be the death of me my little Maia Noelle."
The baby wraps her tiny little fingers around Lena's thumb and she smiles back at the little bundle in front of her. She wanted to choose a name that had an significant importance to not only herself but mostly Kara. Without her, none of this would be possible. She chosen Maia because of Jeremiah Danvers, the man who had practically saved Kara's life as a child. When Kara was 5 years old, her parents had died in a car accident and she was sent to live with her aunt. Her Aunt Astra was not a good person. Alcohol used to reek in her breath every time she'd yell at Kara for not doing as she was told. The strength in her fists used to stain Kara's skin with bruises and her cheeks with tear streaks. Kara had lived that way until the age of 10, being treated as if she were nothing. It wasn't until one day when Agent Jeremiah Danvers bumped into a child stealing fruit from a grocery store that her life changed. He questioned her throughly and was able to get through the child's thick walls. He gave the love she so longingly missed. He gave her an amazing new family who treated her as if she were their own. He gave her a new life.
Lena has met the man a few times in her life, although at the time, she had no idea how amazing he was. He was a kind man from what she could remember. As a child, he treated her with such kindness whenever she and Lex were interrogated. Any other agent would press on her and her brother until they would crack which would never happen.
And finally her middle name, Noelle. She had chosen Noelle because it is the name of the bakery with the best crème brûlée's in all of Paris. It's where Kara and Lena had their first date and many more following that. It was their spot and will always be, no matter what happens between them.
Seeing Maia in her arms makes her ache for Kara more than ever. She should've just told her the day she found out, she deserves to know. But it's too late now, regardless of her lack of courage, Lena knew Kara would love Maia with all her heart. Her pride didn't matter anymore, only the safety of her daughter. She had to protect her and this is the only way. She asks Sam for a pen and paper and immediately begins to quickly scribble down her thoughts and explanations as she held Maia to her chest.
"I love you much Maia. Be good for Mama. I'll see you soon." Lena whispers, planting a long kiss onto the baby's forehead. She hands her over to Sam and almost instantly, Maia let's out a loud shriek that sent chills down Lena's spine. As Sam looks back, Lena gives her a nod and she walks out of the apartment, leaving Lena in hysterics.

FanfictionKara, First off I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry for ending things with you the way I did, I'm sorry for not telling you, I'm sorry for suddenness of this all. I just didn't know what to do. And this of course does not justify my actions...
