With Maia perfectly tucked in her arms, she slowly walks towards Lena's hospital room and takes a deep breath as she steps in. Lena looks extra pale in her light pink hospital gown and lifeless with all the monitors hooked up to her. Walking over to Lena's side, she grabs her hand and slightly flinches at the cold touch. She plants a kiss onto her knuckles and lays on the sofa with a sleeping Maia on her chest. Kara wanted Maia to be there when Lena woke up. Lena has sacrificed so much for Maia and deserves to be with her every second she can. As adamant as Kara is about waiting for Lena to wake up, her eyes begin to grow heavy, exhausted after the events of today. She snuggles up real close with Maia and drifts off to sleep.•••
Lena's eyes flutter open as she feels a nurse poking at her arm. The nurse quickly apologizes and Lena brushes it off, thanking her for doing her job. Lena looks over at the couch and smiles at the sight of Kara and Maia, fast asleep. Maia's eyes suddenly pop open and her big blue eyes immediately meet with Lena's. Carefully getting up, Lena quietly walks over to Kara and Maia and gently lifts the baby up, not wanting to wake Kara. When she lifts the baby off of Kara's chest, she recognizes the MIT hoodie and chuckles quietly. Grabbing the blanket from the couch, she lays it on top of Kara and slides herself and Maia back to her bed.
"Mee." Maia whimpers, wrapping her arm around Lena's neck.
"Hi there sweet girl..." Lena coos, kissing her forehead. "Mommy missed you so so so much. I'm not going anywhere anymore. I'm going to stay right here with you and Mama. I love you my Maia-"
"You really scared me." Kara interrupts, walking up to Lena and Maia.
"I know. But I'm fine Kara really."
"I thought... I lost... you... again." Kara whispers, wiping her tears with her sweatshirt. Lena scoots over and gently pats the bed besides her, letting Kara lay alongside her.
"Never. I promise." Lena whispers, kissing the side of her forehead. "I really fucking missed you."
"I missed you too. It's been tough without you."
"I'm sorry." Lena apologizes. "But it's over now, I'm not going anywhere."
"I know."
"Good. You look awful, get some sleep."
"Says the one who has a bullet wound on her stomach."
"Ouch, you definitely need the sleep. Someone's getting a little grumpy on me." Lena chuckles, giving her the blanket. "Goodnight Kara."
"Goodnight Lena."
As confused as Kara was about everything, she has never felt more at peace than she was in this moment. She finally had Lena by her side and Maia in her arms, the family she yearned for for some long.
Within minutes, both women manage to doze off with heir daughter wedged in between them. When Alex walks in the room, she melts at the sight of it and snaps a quick picture before leaving the flowers and food behind for them.
•••
A few days later Lena is discharged from the hospital and despite her protest, Kara insisted on having Lena stay with her. Lena wanted to be with Kara more than anything but she couldn't disregard all the pain she had caused her. She felt extremely guilty for all the lies and the secrets she kept from Kara and wanted to address them soon. But she could tell Kara needed this, she needed her family to just be stable for once and Lena knew it was best to give it to her. The conversation can wait a week.
"Wow my four favorite people all in one room. Good morning everyone." Lena smiles, walking to the kitchen table. She plants a kiss onto the children's heads and grabs a cup of coffee before slowly taking a seat.
"Your stomach feel any better? How'd you sleep?" Kara asks.
"Definitely getting better but still not great. But thank you."
"Okay I'm taking Ruby to her preschool now and heading off to work. I'm glad you're finally here Lena. I've missed you." Sam beams, wrapping her arms around. Ruby does the same and the two of them head out.
"I should get going too. I got to head off to meet someone and then to classes. Lena please call me if you need anything. I know she's our daughter and you know how to handle kids but still I just want to make sure-"
"That I can actually take care of Maia."
"Lena that's not what I meant."
"I know it's not, but I know that's what you were thinking." Lena sighs, walking over to Kara. "I haven't been here and I don't know Maia as well as you do. That's okay Kara, I'll get there. No need to feel guilty."
"Okay."
"Okay." Lena sympathetically smiles, planting a light kiss on Kara's cheek. "Go. We'll be waiting for you."
Kara gives Lena a nod and she says a lengthy goodbye to Maia before she heads out the door.
As angry as she is with Lena for all she's done, seeing her and being with her makes her fall into their old habits. The shy and bright smiles, the quick cheek kisses, and the constant touching. It was something she never truly realized she missed. But that doesn't change the problems that were still between them. They can't change the fact that Lena just picked up and left. They can't change the fact that Lena dropped off their secret babygirl and in her care without a single word. They can't change that Kara was heartbroken and miserable. They can't change anything in the past but they can change everything from here on out. And the both of them knew that they were going to do everything they could, to do so.She walks to the coffee shop and finds a white Tesla waiting for her in the parking lot. Taking a deep breath, she opens up the shop and lets him follow her close behind. Pouring out two cups of coffee, she sets them down on the table and takes a seat, not wanting to have this conversation. She looks up into his dark brown eyes and can see he already knew the outcome of this talk. She can see all the anger and sadness but knew it had to be done.
"Hi James. Thank you for meeting me this early. I just wanted to do this as soon as possible and I have class at 9:00."
"I understand."
"I just... wanted to say thank you and I'm sorry." Kara breathes, playing with the handle of her coffee mug. "You are an incredible man with such a kind heart and took care of Maia and I during my darkest time. And I will forever be grateful for that."
"Of course Kara, I care about you two."
"I know you do. But James, I can't ignore the fact that you totally disrespected Lena and can not seem to form a stable relationship with her. She's a part of my life whether you like it or not and she's not going anywhere. Maia needs both of her mothers and clearly you have strong opinions about Lena. And Maia is always first in my eyes. I truly am sorry James, but I don't see this continuing any further."
"I saw it coming and I understand." James sighs, taking a sip of his coffee. "I'm sorry for speaking of her poorly and I'll try to be less judgmental towards her."
"Thank you."
"Well this is it. I really do wish the both of you the best."
"That means a lot James."
"Goodbye Kara."

FanfictionKara, First off I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry for ending things with you the way I did, I'm sorry for not telling you, I'm sorry for suddenness of this all. I just didn't know what to do. And this of course does not justify my actions...
