Chapter 4:

Nori woke up. Katriana had let her stay on her couch for the last few weeks. The police agreed the best location for her was in a big city, rather than seclusion.

She and Derek were given a small police detail, just in case Theo came after them. She was miserable. She was advised not to see Derek or even talk with him.

Theo had made no moves. They found the car he stole a few days after he escaped. They found a receipt in the car said he was going to New York City.

"I've had enough of this," Nori said to Katriana.

"What do you mean?"

"I want to be with Derek."

"Are you sure it's safe?"

"It's been a month. All I'm doing is hiding. This isn't a life. It's a prison sentence."

"Darling, I know it's tough. But it is keeping you safe. And you can leave here whenever you want."

"And then what? Be followed by a pair of officers? I can't live in fear my whole life. At this point the police can protect me here or in Derek's apartment. As much as I love spending time with you, I miss Derek."

"I understand. You guys were made for each other."

"I'm going back to him."

Nori was back in her apartment. The police removed the detail from Derek. Nori had a single officers watching her apartment at all times.

One usually inside and one patrolling the halls. They would stay with her until the New Year. Hopefully Theo would be caught.

The anniversary of her escape passed with no fanfare. They feared Theo would do something that day. When his mother, Martha, was tried for aiding in her kidnapping, they became very aware that both Theo and his father William had a thing for anniversaries. On that day she was given a larger detail. But nothing happened. Maybe he was going to leave her alone.

Because of his escape she had numerous requests for interviews, but she turned them all down. She was in no state to talk to the press. All she wanted was a quiet life.

And once she married Derek they would move away. Somewhere they could start over. Maybe Atlanta.

Nori wouldn't return to LA. She couldn't. Working in the film industry had been her dream. And yet...she didn't miss it. Not now. But if she went to Atlanta she could still do something in film or at least TV.

"Nori, I'm going to work," yelled Derek.

"Wait!" she said. She scuttled out of the bedroom and gave him a quick kiss. "Do you promise everything's going to be okay?"

"Of course it is." The police officer in the living room turned away. She was wearing a loose t-shirt and booty shorts. Not exactly appropriate for strangers, but the officer wasn't going to care if she was comfortable.

Life was a bit more complicated with a constant police presence. But they were on high alert. It was Theo's birthday. She had one officer in the apartment. One in the hall. And one in the lobby.

Tension was high. They wanted her in hiding. But she wouldn't be away from Derek. Not again.

"Be safe, babe."

"I'll try."

"Do or do not, there is no try."

She stuck her tongue out at Derek and went back to the bedroom.
