Chapter 39:
Amy froze in place. She had to get Nori out of the computer room. Now that they knew the code to get in there they could work on it another time. Imogen was fumbling around with her bags and the door.
Amy took the opportunity to quietly move up the stairs. She bolted to the open door of the computer room.
"Nori, we have a problem."
Nori looked up from computer. She had half a password typed in. "What's up?"
"Imogen is here. Clean this place up, hide evidence that we were here. When Theo checks the cameras he's bound to notice any differences. Then get yourself into bed. I'll go distract Imogen."
"Okay." Nori quickly and quietly started organizing the room. Amy tried to act natural as she walked down the stairs, but she knew her eyes kept darting around.
"Help," whispered a weak voice.
Amy let out a squeak. Her eyes dropped down to the very pregnant Imogen collapsed at the foot of the stairs.
"What happened?" asked Amy, immediately reaching down to help the woman up.
"I think my water broke," she gasped. "And I have contractions." She let out a few heavy wheezes then stopped. "Okay, I'm good for now."
"Great, so we have two sick women under this roof."
"What's going on with Nori. Theo called me in a panic saying that something was wrong with her."
"For once I'm glad he heard us," mumbled Amy.
"What was that?"
"I said the incision wound from her surgery is infected. She needs a doctor. It looks bad."
"Well, I called Theo's doctor guy on the way over. At this point we sit and wait and hope that my contractions don't reach five minutes apart before he gets here."
"Amy," called Nori from upstairs.
"Be right up," shouted Amy. "Theo sent help."
"So, how's her pregnancy going?" asked Imogen making her way towards the kitchen.
"She's still early on."
"Bring her down here. I am here to keep an eye on both of you and I'm pretty done with stairs."
Amy headed up the stairs, two at a time and went to Nori, who had her eyes scrunched closed and her face contorted in a weird way. "What are you doing?"
Her eyes snapped open. She looked around and whispered, "I was going to try to get Imogen to take me to the hospital."
"Her water broke, so she's downstairs."
"Perfect, we can continue our escape plan once she leaves."
"It will take hours before her contractions are that far apart and she's already called Doctor Nessbaum."
"We could try overpowering her though," said Nori excitedly.
"That..." Amy was going to say it was an awful idea, but the more she thought about it, the more she liked it. "That might not be the worst idea. She's got a car and knows how to get in and out of the house. I'm glad to see your fighting spirit is back."
"Thanks, I'm glad to have it back."
Amy helped the still weak Nori stand up and helped her down the stairs. "Let me do all the overpowering."
"I trust you."
Amy gave a weak smile, well aware that this plan, like all the others, had a strong chance to fail.

Theo paced around his hotel room in the middle of nowhere. Not that he could even call this a hotel. At best it was a bed and breakfast. At worst it was a motel.
He had no cell signal and hoped that Imogen had arrived. His precious Nori was sick. He knew that for sure. But what was wrong was something he didn't know.
He couldn't leave until he was certain that blasted private eye was off his tail. He tried to keep his composure with some simple meditation. But it was taking everything in him not to rush back to his girl. His wife.
A knock on the door broke his concentration. What could they possibly want? He paid in cash.
He looked through the peep hole and saw the, for lack of a better word, creepy manager. The man reminded him of Norman Bates. He of course knew this was the kind of place that only low lives and criminals would come. Then again the world saw him as no more than a common crook these days.
They were of course wrong. But he feared this man wanted to extort him.
"Sir, open the door!"
Theo remained absolutely quiet.
"Look, buddy. I know you're in there. I don't care who you are or what you're running from. I really don't. But you have a phone call from a British woman."
Theo cautiously opened the door.
"Why didn't you send it to my room?"
"I tried to. Your phone is probably disconnected."
Theo was suspicious. But it had to be Imogen calling. She was the only British woman he knew. He unlocked the door and cautiously followed the manager, his hand on the gun in his pocket.
Another man behind the counter passed him the phone.
"Theo, you better get back here!"
"Good to hear your dulcet tones," said Theo, comforted at Imogen's voice.
"Theo, cut the crap. These two heathens you have here tried to attack me! My water has broken. Get back here or I swear to God I'm going to shoot one of them in the face!
"Slow down. What happened?"
"Amy tried to pin me down while your wife demanded the code for the front door. I pulled my gun on them and got them locked in the basement."
