Chapter 26:

Nori and Amy climbed into Theo's car. He secured them both with ankle shackles. For once they both were getting the chance to go somewhere. It was just some stupid New Years Party. But they were going outside. It was going to be a long drive.

"Now, I don't want any funny business from the two of you. Imogen and I will be keeping an eye on you and if either of you say anything to her bloody boyfriend, Steve, I'll shoot him. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Theo," said Nori.

"Yup," said Amy.

"Good, and Nori what is your name this evening?"

"Lily Manning. Your...your wife." Nori hated the word. To think there was once a time in her life where she wanted nothing more than to be married to Theo Masterson. It was just a stupid fantasy at the time, but now she realized it was a horrifying reality.

"And Amy, what's your name?"

"I'm Emma Bryant, and I'm Lily's autistic cousin. I live with you guys and I don't talk much." Theo had been drilling this false information into their heads for the last few days.

"And what's my name?" he asked.

"Trevor," they said in unison.

"And Imogen's?"

"Jennifer."

"Good. Now let's get going."

He handed Nori the Nintendo Switch and put on some music. Amy had nothing to entertain herself. He didn't bother blindfolding either of them. His car windows were tinted and it was unlikely that they'd be able to get anyone's attention.

When she was in London he didn't want her to see where they were going, but he must have trusted the darkness to keep that hidden. It was only 6 pm, but it was already dark as sin outside.

"Where's this party?" asked Amy, positively bored. They had been on the road for over an hour.

"We'll be there soon enough," sighed Theo.

"Amy, you can play the Switch, if you want."

"No, she can't, Nori. I brought it for you."

"I don't mind letting her have a turn. You and I can talk," said Nori, having absolutely no interest in speaking with her captor, but desiring to keep the peace.

Nori had spent the last few days trying as hard as she could to keep him happy. She wanted Amy to have a life outside of this. She hoped she could placate Theo enough to not need him medicated.

"Fine, she can play for a little while."

Nori passed the Switch to Amy. Out the window she saw nothing but a dark, seemingly endless forest. She wondered if the world outside even existed anymore.

"I've never actually been to a New Years Eve party, what do people do?" asked Nori.

"How have you never been to a New Years party," said Amy. "It's just a holiday party. People drink, they mingle, they eat."

Nori was embarrassed. Her parents had attended a massive party every year and always left her with a baby sitter and when she got older alone. And neither Andrea or Derek's families really did anything for the holiday using it as a cool down period.

Her first New Years with Derek she didn't even kiss him at midnight because she had a panic attack when it started to snow and afterwards she was so tired that she fell asleep early.

"I just never really went to one I guess."

"It won't be anything too crazy," said Theo. "Normally Imm just puts on a movie and orders in far too much food. Though I think she said she was planning to cook."
