I walk out of my room silently, making my way down the hallway to the elevator. I did as father requested, putting on a formal dress. As a Japanese family, we own a lot of traditional Japanese things, so I'm currently wearing a blue kimono. When I get downstairs, I bow respectfully to my father. Turning, I see...? A man? A woman? I don't know, because they're completely covered. Keeping my face clear of any confusion, I bow to it also. We all sit down at the ornate table, and a Foot in uniform serves us. As I pick at my salad, father talks business, so I tune him out. There's silence for a few seconds, which jerks me out of my reverie.
"Karai, this is Master Kiara, and she's going to train you while I go to Japan." Father says, staring hard at me.
"Yes Father. I am very pleased to meet you, Master Kiara." I say, knowing that this is not a time to be a smart-aleck. Father stood up, and helped Master Kiara up out of her chair.
"Karai, go change for patrol." Father ordered me, before disappearing out the door. I quickly ran upstairs, and into my room, giddy. I absolutely love patrol, it clears my mind even better than meditation. I quickly pull on my armor, and grab my blade. Something makes me grab my other one, and I shiver.
Downstairs, Father briefs me.
"The turtles will be out tonight, and I want you to stalk them. Do not engage them, do you hear me?" He said menacingly.
"Yeah, I hear you." I said, impatient.
"Go then." He says. Quick as a flash, I'm out the door, out of the building, and breathing in the night air. Jumping from rooftop to rooftop, I perform a series of exercises. Jump, kick, flip, slide, roll. Repeat. In fact, I almost run into the turtles, but I see them in enough time to stop. It's a good thing I'm silent.
"Raph, slow down. I'm leader, and I say we watch. Karai is going to end up over here sometime." Leo says.
"Fine." Raph snaps. I snicker quietly at the irony of the statement. I'm already here Leo. After about an hour of sitting here, the turtles are getting impatient.
"She's not here, Leo." Raph snarled.
"You think I don't know that Raph?" Leo fired back. He was testy tonight, and it surprised me. He was usually calm, and sweet-sweet? Holy crap, that thought needs to go away now.
"Looking for me?" I ask, perched on top of something that can't be reached easily.
"Yeah." Mikey pipes up.
"Shut up Mikey." Leo snarls.
"Leo, chill." Raph said, angry now.
"Problems, boys? You all seem on edge tonight." I say, aiming that at Raph and Leo.
"Raph, Mikey, Donnie, go home. I'll take care of Karai." Leo snarls again. What is under his shell?
"Fine." Raph spits, and they leave. I'm pretty shocked, but it hasn't really been a normal night.
"What do you want Karai?" Leo asks.
"Why would I want something?" I ask, pretending to be wounded. Leo winces.
"So what's the matter Leo? You seem edge tonight." I say, jumping down from the telephone pole I've been perched on.
"Leave me alone Karai. Unless you want to fight." Leo asks hopefully. One hand rests on his weapon.
"You know it. Just a friendly spar." I say, drawing my blade. We circle each other, before he lunges at me. I parry the below, and twirl away. He growls. He lunges again, aiming high, towards my head. I parry, and jab at his feet, which makes him jump to avoid the below. I snicker, and twirl away again. I'm in an annoying mood.
"Stop playing with me Karai." He snarls. Taking it as bait, I quickly lunge at him, knocking his weapon aside, and straddle him. I smirk.
"Still playing Leo?" I ask. He stares up at me.
"Why?" He asks.
"Why what?" I ask, a little confused.
"Why do you play with us?" He asks me. His eyes probe deep into mine, and I feel lost in the pools in his eyes.
"I don't play." I said, staring down at him.
"Really?" He asks softly. His eyes search mine again, and I want to hide, because I feel like he can see my soul.
"Stop looking at me like that." I snapped. He grinned, and I lost myself in his smile. Taking advantage of this, he flips me under him, disarming me, and tossing both of my blades away.
"Leo, get off of me." I said, struggling beneath him.
"Or what?" He challenges.
"Or I'll, um, I'll..." I'm at a loss of words for once.
"Is my face that beautiful?" Leo teases me. I flushed a little bit.
"Well, do you want me to look sideways or something?" I shoot back.
"Nah, I like looking at your face." He says back to me, and then freezes. Is he flirting with me? His grip loosens, and I slide out from underneath him, grabbing my blade. I don't attack him though. Somehow, it seems wrong.
"Uh, Leo? You ok?" I ask.
"Yeah." He says.
"Good." I say grinning, and pounce him again. I quickly take advantage of his numbness, and straddle him again. He freezes up beneath me. I decide o have some fun, and lean in close to him, my bangs brushing his face.
"Why so tense Leo? You in love with somebody?" I ask. His eyes desperately search mine, and I fall back in shock.
"You do! You are in love with someone! Who?" I ask, curious.
"Just leave me alone, Karai." He says.
"Fine." I concede. I turn to leave, bending my knees to jump to the next roof.
"See you tomorrow, same time." I say, and leave. I'm already in my building before I remember I forgot one of my blades.
