Every day for three months I woke up, ate breakfast, then went back to sleep. I woke up again and ate lunch with Justin then returned back to my cell to stare at the cement wall. By dinner I was let out of my cage for the last time and I ate with Justin.
He'd tell me more about the time he lived in Heavensly ,even some of the times that he saw me in town with my family. It was so strange to hear about myself from someone else's point of view. His descriptions were spot on and he seemed to know a lot about me just from watching.
I can admit that it made me forget about all the terrible things that happened throughout the days. But I my mind always gravitated back to Harper and Samuel and where they could have went, they just disappeared without a trace as soon as we arrived.
The bell for the showers would ring and Justin and I would leave for the showers. I almost memorized the entire routine, everything was so repetitive. Mr Graves appreciated order and less chaos but I didn't see that happening with Demetrius around.
I woke up to the sound of someone banging on my cell door. That wasn't suppose to happen, it was just too early. I yawned and wiped the crust from my eyes. What time was it ? I stood up watching the guard who was staring at me. I expected him to walk into the room but he stood there instead.
Demetrius waved his arms at me trying to get my attention. "Are you deaf kid ? He is speaking to you !"
I raised an eyebrow at him then returned my attention to the guard. "But he didn't say anything." This was ridiculous.
There was a pause and Demetrius's face lit up. "Ah I see, no injections yet." Another pause. "Well remind Mr Graves that he needs to get that done right away."
Was he....talking to the guard ? How was that even possible ?
The guard stepped forward grabbing my arm. I stumbled forward and he pushed me forward. I assumed since I couldn't hear him that he had to use force against me. We exited the hallway of quiet prisoners and the guard directed me to a set of red steel doors. As we entered a cacophony of moans and screams filled the air.
My body became tense and I couldn't breathe. I turned my head to a cell behind me. A boy about my age was huddled in the corner of his cell shaking violently, his eyes were sunken into his head and blood slowly trickled from the sockets.
"Hey why isn't anyone helping him, he looks sick !" I called out.
The guard behind me hit me in my back urging me to keep moving forward. This place was so much different from the other hall. Everyone here looked sick and on the verge of dying. What was I doing here ? I was a healthy boy, there was nothing wrong with me at all.
Up ahead were two signs dangling from the ceiling. One read Infirmary which veered to the right, the other read Surgery which veered to the left.
I could feel the guard pulling me to the left. Surgery....surgery ! I yanked away from the guard attempting to run back to my cell. I didn't know what I was thinking, I couldn't get away that easily. The guard grabbed my hair and smashed my head into the wall next to us. I could hear my nose crunch under the pressure and I yelled in pain.
Blood spilled from my nose dropping onto my jumpsuit. I pinched my nose shut stopping the flow of most of it, it throbbed painfully and yet I was still expected to walk forward into another room; where the screams got even louder.
My body shook with fear I hadn't been so scared for my life before, was this where I died ? I prayed for death himself to take me away.
There were rows and rows of operating table facing each other. All squeezed into a small space, what was this even for ? The guard stopped me at the fifth table on the right where he left me with a doctor. Well I thought they were a doctor because of the coat they were, but the color of it was black, not the traditional color.
