Victoria's POV
I woke up to a throbbing headache. Every muscle in my body aches. My eyes burn, my gums are sore, and my heart is beating erratically and also very lightly.
"Collin?" I get up from the bed, but collapse on the soft carpet.
"Hey, you're up." He smiled, hugging me.
"Yeah." I hugged him back.
"How do ya feel?" He looked in my eyes.
"My eyes burn, my gums are sore, I hear the microwave plate turning, I can smell" I sniffed the air. "I think its a squirrel."
He laughed "No, squirrel. As a newbie you need human blood. We'll close the windows and keep the lights off for your eyes. These pills are for pain." He laughed at me again.
"What's so funny?" I said slightly irritated
"You complain alot."
"Get off of me." I pushed him away and stood up, successfully this time, and began walking down the stairs.
"The newbie has arisen!" Danny laughed
"Shut up, Daniel." I threw a sock at him
"How do you feel?" Warren asked me
"Everything hurts, but it's slowly fading." I shrugged
"Why isn't she locked in that room?" Ashlyn asked
"Because I don't want her in there. She wanted to do this and she hasn't tried to do anything crazy yet." Collin said, standing behind me.
"I wasn't crazy! Why did I have to go in the room?" She argued
"You tried to eat her." He said with a blank face
"Oh..yeah." She sat back down
"If she goes wild, she goes in the room. If not we let her roam free." Warren agreed.
Collin and I both nodded in agreement.
"Are you hungry?" Warren asked me
"Very."
"Follow me." Danny, Ashlyn, Collin and I all followed Warren to the kitchen.
"Everyone tell me your favorites." He asked opening the fridge.
"AB+"
"O"
"B-"
"Okay um..are you more sweet or salty?"
"Sweet." I answered. Blood has a sweet or salty?
"Okay..Sweet like cinnamon roll sweet or sweet like chocolate sweet?"
"Does blood really taste like that?" I laughed
"Depends on who's and what type. Answer the question."
"Cinnamon roll, I guess."
"When you eat, if you go for human, stick with the attractive people. Not too skinny, but not too heavy either. AB+ or B- is probably the best for you. I'll get you a taste of them all so you can decide. After a while you'll be able to smell the difference in good and bad blood." He handed me a bag of blood.
"So do I use the IV cord as a straw?" I asked.
"Yup. Drink slow, don't rush it." Collin answered
I opened the little cap and the smell was overwhelming.
"Woah."
"Drink slow." He reminded me.
I took the straw in my mouth and drank from it. It tasted like something fresh from a bakery. I couldn't help but want more. The bag was gone in less than two minutes.
"Okay. Breathe." Collin said with wide eyes.
I wanted to calm down but I also wanted more. I needed more.
"Can I have-"
"No." Warren said standing in front of the blood box.
"Please. I- I need more." My eyes were stinging a little and I felt my fangs coming in.
"Collin take her for a walk." Warren commanded.
"Okay." He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and guided me to the door.
I threw his arm off of me and ran outside.
"Victoria!"
I ran deeper in the woods behind the house. He was close but not close enough to catch me. I got halfway up a tree before I stopped mid jump.
"Leave it alone." He demanded.
It was a squirrel a tree over and it was eatting.
"I want it." I said in a voice I didn't recognize.
"I know you do, but you just ate."
"No, I need more." I continued in that voice. I growled and quietly jumped in the other tree. I was silent as I climbed a little higher and closer to the squirrel.
"Tori. Leave the squirrel alone. You can't eat a squirrel. You're still part human, meaning you still love animals. You can't kill it." He convinced me.
I sat down on the branch I just climbed and took a breath.
"It smells amazing, but I can't kill it."
"One day you'll have to, but that day is a few months away. C'mon, I have an idea." He began climbing down the tree.
I jumped straight to the bottom. As a human I probably would've broken both of my legs. I barely felt anything as I hit the bottom.
"You're supposed to jump down thw branches, not straight to the bottom." He chuckled.
"Well im not a priss. I'm not afraid to get my shoes dirty. Now whats this idea, cuz im still hungry." I smirked
He shook his head and I followed him to a lake.
"Stay here. Don't touch anything, don't eat anything, just sit there. I'll be back in like five minutes."
I sat down in the grass and ran my fingers through it. It was very soft and a little damp. The chirping birds are beginning to annoy me.
I picked up a small rock and threw it at the bird that flew over me. It made it an eerie screech as it fell the ground.
Collin's POV
There are some human foods that tastes somewhat like blood. I decided to go the gas station and pick up a few snacks for her.
I get back to see her laughing. I see nothing that looks funny so I just stare at her.
"What are you laughing at?"
"Oh that bird has no feathers." She pointed to a featherless bird a few feet in front of her. "I picked them off and used the juice from that plant to make them stick to my fingers. I was singing 'I believe I can fly' and pretending I could fly. " She started laughing again.
"You have a very sick sense of humor, babygirl." I smiled at her.
"Yes, but you gotta admit it's funny." She raised her eyebrows and started flapping her "wings" again.
I just laughed and started digging through the bag.
"Human food. It tastes like blood, but not exactly. It's good for your human half, but if you want real fuel for your vampire half you need blood." I handed her the strawberry protein bar and the sparkling strawberry cider.
"I got strawberry because its red and it smells good." I smiled.
I drank my rootbeer and watched her as she ate.
I think she'll be okay. She's a strong girl. She may need a little extra help with the food and portions but I know she can do this.
