Chapter 22

I know my mom had just left but I couldn't take this guilty feeling. I kept trying to in front of Wesley. For him I have to. While I went into the kitchen to get snacks, I heard a noise.

"Wes? What was that?" I called out to him.

"...I think someone just knocked."

I turned around and motioned him to hide again. I'm terrified. I slowly opened the door to find Luna.

"Lay!"

"Hey! Luna!" I made sure to say her name loud so that Wesley could get away and knew who it was,"what brings you here without calling or texting?"

"I'm sorry! I just-I found your jacket in the theatre room. Weird huh? Must've forgotten it in there last time we watched a movie," she handed it to me. SH*T. I began shaking a little. I'm just not a rebel and this is tearing me apart.

"Yeah clumsy me! Always forgetting things," I face palmed myself.

"Don't worry about it! Anyways...I better get going, I got some friends that want to meet me at the mall...see you around," Luna hugged me and walked off the porch. I immediately shut the door and slid to the floor, blowing a sigh of relief.

"You can come out now Wes I think she is-"

The door handle started shaking above me and I crawled to the couch staring at it. Suddenly, it opened...and it was my moms new husband. I didn't want to look this guy in the face knowing what he did to Wesley.

"Layla hey! Your mom wanted me to stay with you so we can "bond" I guess haha," he set some bags from the grocery store in the kitchen. At this point, I'm only wondering if Wesley made it out of the house.

"I got some snacks and stuff. Want some?"

"Oh no I'm good thanks," I sat down on the couch," listen...I hate to ask you about this...but, did you ever even think that your son would run away? Were there any clues?"

His grip tightened on the fridge from what I could see. I didn't want to make him angry.

"No. I barely saw him. He is a bad influence. But he was 18 so I figured if he thinks he can take care of himself than he can go right ahead and do it."

"...and you didn't even look for him?"

"I! I tried uh I'm sorry can we not talk about this right now?"

"Its fine no I'm sorry for asking," I backed away and started going upstairs.

"I thought we were gonna bond!" he yelled up.

"We can another day, you're off the hook!" I laughed and went into my room. shutting the door and sitting in front of it. I started crying because I was so stressed. I didn't like being bad. I was only doing it for Wesley. My heart is racing, what if Luna all ready knows? What if she tells my mom? and what if my mom tells Wesley's dad?

I felt hands slip into my fingers and a forehead go against mine. I looked up and saw Wesley staring into my eyes.

"I'm still here..."

"I'm scared Wesley. This is dangerous, leave!" I whimpered.

"It is gonna be all right, I promise. You're fine."

He lifted me up off of the ground and laid me under the sheets of my bed.

"I have ears like a canary, I can hear him if he is coming, don't worry about it."

Then, he laid next to me. Under the sheets, he entangled our legs and spooned me. His arms wrapped around my side. Wesley's warmth comforted me. I should trust him. After all, being bad, he does these things all the time.
