Chapter 26
Wesley walked me to the front of my house.
"I'll text you. Don't be hesitant to call if you need anything," He smiled and kissed my forehead.
"Good bye babe," I gently placed both of my hands on his cheeks and pulled him down for a kiss on the lips.
He smiled and took short breaths.
"Bye beautiful."
I turned around and headed inside. Heading up to my room, I noticed a presence of someone in the room. I didn't see a car outside, whom ever it was must have parked in the garage.
I peeked around the corner and saw someone sitting on the couch, doing nothing.
"Hello?" I asked.
The man turned around. It was Mark.
"Who was that?" he sternly said.
I swallowed.
"Just a friend, why?"
"No reason. I just was asking."
I nodded and went into the kitchen. Did he know? This was nerve wrecking. I heard his footsteps creaking on the wood floor.
"You know Layla? You know what trust means?"
"Yes it's the-"
"Most important thing," he interrupted, then continued,"firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something."
I stopped what I was doing as he crept closer.
"Why are you telling me this?"
"I will not have lying in this house when I am in it. Who were you with?"
I could feel every simple movement he made. His hand touched my shoulder and lingered to my hair.
"I told you, I was with a friend."
"Was it a boy?"
I swallowed once more.
"No."
"Liar!" he pushed the pan onto the ground and it chimed loudly. I flinched and backed away slowly.
"Please," I whimpered. My eyes were watering up.
"Just tell the truth," Mark got closer and I backed away.
"Yes," I cried, "I was with a boy!" I started walking up the stairs. He was following me but I made sure I stayed a greater distance ahead.
"See...thats all you had to do. Does your mother know about this?"
I went into my room and shut the door sitting down against it to keep it shut.
"No...well sort of," Tears still falling from my eyes.
"Sort of?...the truth Layla, the truth!" he banged on the door.
"No! No she doesn't! Please leave me alone!"
Silence was heard from the other side of the door. Once I thought he was gone, I climbed onto my bed and cuddled my pillow. Crying softly but hard enough to have tears flow fast down my now red cheeks. I can't tell Wesley. I know it would be the right thing to do but I just can't. If we keep investigating on Mark maybe I won't have to tell Wesley. My mom can just not marry him.
My phone dinged and it was from Luna.
"I just got back from my grandmas! Come over?"
I sniffed and texted back swiftly.
"I'm not feeling to good. Maybe tomorrow?"
"Are you okay? If you need anything I'll come over," she replied.
"No I just need to sleep."
I put the phone down and stared off into the corner of my room while hugging my pillow still.
A car was heard outside pulling in the driveway. It was my mom. I ran down the stairs and waited for her to come in. Mark stood beside me putting his one finger over his mouth.
She opened the door.
"Layla? I didn't think you would be home."
I latched onto her. I could tell she was stunned but I didn't care. I was just glad she was home.
"and Mark!" she let go of me and onto him kissing his lips.
I frowned and gave him a dirty look from behind her back.
"Just give me a minute to make dinner and-"
"No honey I got it," Mark interrupted.
"Well no I can do it," my mom said.
"I got it babe," he said once more.
"All right," she smiled and kissed him again.
I did not like where this was going. With the wedding only a week and a half away, I had only a few days to stop it.
"and Lay you can have that boy over. I'm anxious to meet him."
"What boy? I told you that wasn't a-" I looked at Mark and he furrowed his eyebrows together and crossed his arms.
"I'm just not ready for you to meet him. He gets nervous easily."
"Oh nonsense, call him up. I expect to see a boy at the dinner table." she went upstairs. I quickly followed behind her trying to change her mind but she wouldn't budge. I went into my room and shut the door.
"Wesley! She wants to meet you."
"What? I don't know," he texted back.
":/ I know but we have to think of something."
"..."
"Babe...omg are u seriously considering this?"
"I will do it for you."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. If it means facing my fears. I am willing to do that for you. I will be over in 20 minutes."
"Wesley...you are amazing<3."
I smiled slightly but it my nervousness overcame it.
I went downstairs and into the kitchen.
Mark was on the phone and seemed worried about something. My mom walked in and sat down.
"I know, I know but I can't do that", he spoke into the phone,"Fine. I will be right there."
"Guys I have to go to the office. They want me there as soon as possible. I'm sorry. The food is done, just put it on your plates," he kissed my moms head and smiled at me then ran out the door with his briefcase.
I widened my eyes. This let pressure off of me and Wesley. I know I can make up stories about him. She will never find out it is Marks son she is talking to.
Suddenly, we heard a knock on the door.
