"My Name is Veronica lodge, I'm calling about one of your father's cases, the Conway murders?"
They had returned to the school with Margrets contact information. They heard the woman sigh over the phone, "Here we go again, what about 'em?"
Veronica glanced up from the phone, at her two friends. "My colleagues and I are writing a retrospective on the murders, and we were wondering if -"
She was cut off by Margret, "My dad was obsessed with the killings."
"He called the house where they happened, the Devil's house. He'd go to that place, day and night for hours, trying to put the pieces together. If you ask me, my father's lost his mind in that house. Now I'm done taking about this, okay? Don't call me again?"
With that, Margret hung up. "Ronnie," Archie started.
"Don't say it, Archie." Veronica sighed.
"Fine I will." Kai muttered under her breath, "We have to go to that house."
Veronica scoffed, "It's the Devil's house. What if he's home?"
___________
It was dark when the trio made their way down to the so-called, Devil"s house. "Now I'm regretting throwing your gun into Sweetwater River." Veronica shuddered as the porch swing creaked."Sheriff Howard kept coming here year after years there must be a reason why. Something that didn't or doesn't add up." Archie stated, shining his flashlight along the porch deck.
"So, what does the article say that happened?" Veronica questioned, turning towards Archie and Kai.
"The Reaper came at night, when the rest of the town was getting ready for bed." Kai murmured, looking down at the unfolded newspaper in her hand.
"He opened the front door, killing the mom, Mary Ellen Conway, first." Archie pointed with his flashlight to an area next to a radiator, "Maybe over there."
Veronica silently made her way over to where Archie was point and picked up a picture frame.
Archie continued off from where Kai started, "He killed the father, Jim Conway, in the kitchen." The trio started towards the area, "He was rushing to save his wife." Archie read, "He was shot point-blank in the chest. The kids were still in their bedrooms."
"Hiding." Kai muttered.
"My god, Archie." Veronica inhaled sharply, taking in the information. "They were hiding under the bed." The group was now in the bedroom, bloodstains still prominent under the bed frame. They walked down a hallway, something catching both of the girl's eyes.
Kai and Veronica glanced at each other, "Archie? You said it was a family of four that was killed, right?" Kai asked warily.
"Yeah, why?" The red head asked, confused. Veronica learned closer to the marks on the door, "There's something weird here." Veronica, "Three sets of initials."
They went searching through some of the cabinets, eventually they found Sheriff Howard's files and notes. "He kept them here so he could keep working on the case." Kai stated. Veronica learned in closer, "Does it say anything about a third child? With the letters 'J' and 'C'?"
Archie went flipping through the files, "Wait, turn it back." Kai blurted as Archie passed a paper. The redhead went back a page, pictures were pinned to the top. "Oh my god, Archie there." Veronica gasped, "The Conways were a family of five."
____________
The next morning, before school started Betty, Jughead, Veronica, Archie, and Kai got together. "So, the real story was in the Sheriff's notebook." Kai sighed, her arms crossed over her chest.
