The first paragraph of your story is what attracts readers to keep reading or abandon your book.

It is very necessary to write a real catchy, beginning that will put a

- question mark on your reader's face.

Or put a

- smile on your reader's face.

Not a shock.

Many writers write shocking first paragraphs, which leaves readers in a deja vu state.

Beginnings should be

- relatable but have a feel of mystery.

- warm to read and slow paced.

Don't

- introduce more than one character in your first paragraph.

- exhaust the reader with too much building descriptions or character descriptions

- tell about the summary of your character's life in the first paragraph.

- rush your first paragraphs. Take your time to build your sentences.

- start the first paragraph with a character waking from sleep, having a dream or preparing for school or work, readers know all about that already, what readers actually need is a reason to read your book.
