Writers should learn to separate his/her emotions and tension from the characters and learn to maintain only the character's.

Emotions or feelings should flow from the characters thoughts and actions and not from the writer's.

Hmm... Quite tricky. Learn to get into your characters head and figure out what they will do about a particular situation, not what you will do.

In order words allow your character to do some thinking for himself.

Readers can actually tell when a writer is getting too involved with a character's life.

Example
If a writer is passing through a heartbreak, he can make a character cry unnecessarily, over react or not react properly in normal common situations.

Which means write when you are in stable state of mind, so that you don't muddle up both your feelings and emotions into a character's actions.
