*clears throat*
Romance is one of the broadest genre that I have ever seen.
Really. We all know what romance is all about. Its so broad because it can be related with other genres in a series.
Example,
Fantasy romance
Adventure, romance
Mystery/thriller, romance
Fan fiction, romance
Vampire, romance
Fiction, romance
Contemporary, romance
Historical, romance
Chick fiction, romance
Paranormal, romance
Romantic comedy
Erotica
Romantica
EtcBasically every writer wants to write a romance book, or read a romance book or talk about a romance. It is quite a contagious genre.
Everybody knows the rules of course. But not to confuse romance with love story.
Traditionally, romance is about two persons coming together, falling in love, the ups and downs of the love, the conflicts and tension and family acceptance issues and finally at the end, there's a happy ending of either they get married and have children or live happily ever after. What matters is a happy ending.
While a Love story, (for example titanic, for a better explanation) have similar factors with romance but there is no guarantee that the 'young blossoming love' will have a happy ending.
It could have a not so perfect happy ending, a bittersweet one or a tragedy.
