Hello Everyone! I hope your new year is off to a good start! again my apologies for not updating, my life has been a bit hectic recently, but I promise I will try to update more!
And on another note I'm #270 in girlpower?!? that's absolutely crazy!!! thank you so much to everyone who has supported me, I love you all!
So, here you go, a big chapter after a long break...thank you all for everything!
School was finally over, no more homework, no more stupid people...just a little bit of Brent and his stupidity, but I can deal with that. Since summer was going to be extremely long I decided to get a job at the local sports centre, located just outside of town. Adam thought it was a fantastic idea and I definitely agreed.
I'd had a few shifts and it was going really well. I was working behind the counter in the shop and sometimes I would clean the equipment for the sports teams that practised there. Sometimes it was hard for me to get around, but the people I worked with understood and didn't push me too hard.
I was slowly getting used to my new leg, it was a weird sensation but over time it was becoming familiar to me. It gave me really sore skin sometimes but its not the end of the world.
I woke up with a start to someone knocking on my bedroom door. I turned and looked at my clock and it was only half past 6 in the morning, this better be good. I quickly put my prosthetic leg on and opened the door. Adam was stood there in his duck pyjamas (yes, he is a grown man and wears duck pyjamas, the best Christmas present I have ever gotten him).
"what is it?" I groaned, stifling a yawn. Adam looked up at me, with one eye open and one not, probably just as tired as I was.
"you've got the early shift today, remember?" he mumbled out as he rubbed the sleepy dust out of his eyes. Oh crap, I completely forgot! I nodded to him and slammed the door shut. Thankfully I had folded my work clothes neatly on the stool at the end of the bed. I slipped into them as fast as I possibly could. I jumped in front of the mirror and noticed something off about my outfit, it took me a few minutes to notice but I had put my jumper on the wrong way around. After another ten minutes I was finally ready to set off.
My work clothes consisted of a royal blue polo neck shirt, with black jeans.
Adam and I entered the car park of the sports centre and I still could barely keep my eyes open. Maybe getting the early shift wasn't the best idea. Adam turned to me and kissed me on the head. I got out of the car and stomped my way to the door like some sleepy dinosaur.
Just before I managed to open the door, it swung open and Arnold, my boss. Flung himself out. Arnold was the owner of the sports centre, ever since his father first bought the building in the 50's. according to his daughter, who also works with us, the building was originally used as a roller-skating rink. Due to the large field out of the back of the building, they decided to renovate to a sports field for the kids to play on, and as the years went on it became a professional sports centre, used by all the up and coming athletes in the area.
Arnold was a very sweet old man who loved this place very much. I used to come here when I was younger to play football, but after the new playing field was constructed in my town, my team never played here anymore.
"Amber sweetheart how are you this morning?" he shouted excitedly, as he always was, no matter what the time of day. He embraced me in a large bear hug, which always left me gasping for breath and kissed both of my cheeks. He really was the sweetest.
"I'm fine Arnold, how are you?" I smiled at him as he let go of me.
"Never you mind Missy, but I've got someone very important here to see you" he smile wickedly, like he's been planning this for months. Butterflies immediately erupted in my stomach. Who on earth would want to see me at 8 in the morning? Without me being able to give a reply I was dragged into the building. My prosthetic leg wasn't expecting that to happen so twisted in a funny way and I nearly fell face first, but Arnold managed to catch me, a worried expression on his face. "I'm Sorry sweetheart I didn't mean to do that, I'm just so excited...did I hurt you?" he asked anxiously. I nodded no and he took my hand much more gently this time.
We entered the large sports arena and there was someone sat on one of the large benches placed around the space. The person immediately turned around and my heart stopped. Stood in front of me was one of the coaches for the GB Paralympic football team...but why would they want to see me?
She quickly skipped over and grabbed my hand giving me a firm handshake. "Hi, I'm Meghan Blake, you must be Amber Rose?" she asked politely. A nervous smiled creeped on my face.
"Yes, that's me, what can I do for you?" I asked in my customer service voice, that sounds absolutely horrid. Her smile widened.
"Actually, it's what you can do for me" she said. A confused expression must have crossed my face and Meghan laughed lightly. "I'm trying to set up a new all-Female Paralympic football team for GB. I watched some of your previous games and even with your disability I know you could easily make it as a pro. So, I want you to come to training with me in London for a year. We will provide housing for you and your brother and any transport needed to come and see your friends whenever you need, so...what do you say?".
