Connor felt exhausted. He just lay in bed staring at the ceiling, he hadn't even bothered to change out of his clothes. He couldn't shake Evan's face from his mind. That look of utter fear on his face and the tears streamed down his cheeks. It scared him a little, he never knew someone could care for him so much. He never knew he could care so much for someone else either. He couldn't believe what Evan had said, about the tree. How scared it made him, to try and imagine a world without Evan. A world without his smile, or his nervous ticks, or his frayed blue polo shirt. In that moment Connor was terrified with the thought that he almost lost the one thing that meant most to him, and even more terrified with the fact they almost never met. But most of all, above everything else Connor couldn't stop thinking about how Evan kissed his wrist. It was quick and gentle, yet it sent a surge of electricity through his entire arm. Without thinking Connor lifted his arm and placed it over his mouth, his lips touching the same spot Evan's did only hours ago. He closed his eyes and imagined him and Evan back in that park. Sitting, talking. He imagined Evan's laugh, the way he nose crinkled up and his eyes went all squinty. He imagined looking at Evan with those big blue eyes staring into Connor cupped his jaw and leaned into him. And he was kissing him, he felt Evan's arms move around his back pulling him closer. Connor's hands snaked up Evan's neck, until he was running his fingers though his neat dirty-blond hair. Connor gasped as Evan's hands slid their way down Connor's lower back and- Connor opened his eyes and sat bolt upright in his bed. His head was racing. Connor felt his eyes burning as tears rolled down his cheeks. There was no point denying how he felt anymore, pushing it away, using the "I'm just excited to have a friend" excuse to explain why Connor couldn't stop thinking about him all the time. It was a feeling Connor hadn't felt in a long time and it terrified him. He rolled over and clenched his eyes shut, willing for sleep to take over and take him away from his own head.

...

Morning came, and Connor found himself actually feeling okay. Which was strange considering all that has happened only a day before. Connor got dressed in his black skinny jeans, he had like four pairs of them, and put on his favourite black hoodie. He went to walk out of his room as he swung his satchel over his shoulder when he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror. He looked at his hair, all messy and disheveled covering about 70% of his face. He turned towards the mirror, and pulled one of the hair ties off his wrist. He tied his hair into a messy bun and smiled as he walked out the door. Zoe stopped dead.

"You look like a girl Connor." She teased.

"Still hotter than you sis!" He exclaimed as he bolted down the stairs.

Once at school Connor went looking around for Evan, they had to leave early this morning because of Zoe's extra jazz band rehearsals. So Connor was fully expecting to have to wait around for Evan to turn up, but he was wrong. He saw Evan sitting down at a bench looking at something on his laptop. Just at that moment he looked up, spotting Connor walking towards him. He eyes widened as he took a seat next to Evan.

"Your hair?" Connor shrugged, playing dumb.

"Yeah what about it?" Evan just laughed gleefully as he ran one of his hands through Connor's hair. When Evan went back to his laptop Connor saw he was blushing. Meanwhile Connor was trying to ignore the fact his scalp was tingling. Just at that moment Jared fucking Kleinman rocks up, with a look of disgust to match his own.

"Evan where the fuck have you been man you've disappeared at lunch!" Evan just shrugged, clutching his laptop to his chest.

"I've been hanging out with Connor." Jared laughed.

"That's the gayest thing I've heard all day, seriously man if you want to keep your reputation in tact you should really come back to sitting with me." Jared threw his hands in the air, "Just saying." Evan smiled.

"You know Jared that's a great idea." Jared glared at Connor with a wicked smile on his face. "Connor and i will sit with you at lunch." Jared eyes went wide.

"No, no Evan that's not what i meant-" Evan smirked, which Connor had never seen Evan do before, it was a bit of a turn-on.

"I would hate for you to lose your car insurance Jared." Evans voice was dripping with sarcasm. Jared's eyes narrowed.

"You blackmailing me Evan?" Evan shrugged coolly, sitting up straight.

"I don't know Jared, wouldn't you?" Jared sighed in defeat.

"Touché." he said as he walked off. Connor looked and Evan and the two burst out laughing.

"I can't believe i just did that!" Evan said, laughing at himself. Connor wrapped his arm around Evan's shoulder.

"Hansen, have i ever told you i love it when you fight dirty?" Evan just laughed, as his face went a distinct shade of red. Connor pretended not to notice, even though it made his heart jump. While he dared not to think about it, he couldn't help but wonder. Maybe, just, just maybe... Evan felt the same way Connor did. It was unlikely but that inkling of a thought was enough to keep Connor happy for the rest of the day.
