"As punishment for destroying the pyramid of  Anubis, all of the souls you have collected will confiscated" Anara whined, quoting what Lord Death had said to her and Kid. Soul and Black Star both burst out laughing, and even Maka snickered a little bit. "Hey! Don't laugh at me!"

"Hah! I'll laugh all I want. Consider it revenge for laughing at me and Soul when we 'killed' Blair." Maka, Anara and Tsubaki and their partners stepped up to the platform in the death room.

Maka called Lord Death. "Ya, ya! Hi, hello, what's up? Thanks for coming."

"Scythe meister Maka reporting in."

"Yeah, and Dark Arm meister Blackstar too."

"And Tsubaki, I'm his partner." I don't understand why we have to introduce ourselves like this, he already knows who we are.

"What did you want with us?" Soul asked.

"Right, I have a little assignment for you guys to take on."

"Assignment?" The students chorused.

Lord Death held his hand up to his face like he was whispering. "Some extra lessons."

"HUH?! Those extra lessons that stupid people get, those extra lessons!?!?" Wow Maka, you know Blackstar is right next to you right?

"Oh screw that," Her partner turned away. "I'm gonna be a Death Scythe, I'm too cool for extra lessons." Well you're still a student for now, deal with it.

At Lord Death's request Maka recited why they were here at the academy, as if everybody didn't already know that. Lord Death proceeded to remind them how technically, none of them had collected any souls. Like a moron, Blackstar actually laughed. Anara did like how Lord Death called him "Chuckles" though. He then explained that for their extra lessons they would be going after Sid, one of the old teachers who was attacking students.

"Another difficulty is that we still don't know who changed Sid into a zombie, or what their motive could be," He said.

"What? Yeah you-" Anara was cut by a reaper chop. "Owww! What the hell man??" She covered her head protectively, even after the reaper lowered his giant hand. She didn't bother standing up after that, instead choosing to pout from her place on the floor. Why did he tell them that he doesn't know who did it? For one, I could always tell them, I helped for Death's sake! And two, it's not like it's some big mystery anyway!

Blackstar didn't even notice, either that or he just didn't care. "Ok! You can leave it all to me sir! For our extra lesson we just have to eliminate these guys??"

"Yep that's pretty much it!" Lord Death turned to face Anara again. "Now I actually have a different mission for you."

"What, why?" Maka asked. They ignored her. Because it would be unfair to pit me against the guy I've been living with for the last 9 years.

"We have a new student coming in a few days, I know you already met him, so you will be in charge of showing him around and helping with anything he might need to get used to the school." Anara perked up. New student? That I've already met? It must be Kidd! But... that sounds fairly easy...Eh, I won't complain.

-----

Anara yawned. It was already pretty late; Maka, Blackstar and their partners left for their remedial lesson almost as soon as it got dark, what was taking them so long to get here? She had been waiting patiently next to her bedroom window where she would have a nice view of her classmate's fight with her father.

Her spoon scraped the bowl and surprised her tongue when it came back to her mouth empty. Damn, she was out of mac and cheese. Not like going downstairs to put her dishes by the sink was a big chore, but now she only had homework and cleaning to do while she waited. As she passed Dr. Stein's office she noticed that he still hadn't eaten dinner. That wasn't a big deal. They understood each other-- if they were just too focused on a project to feel hungry they could usually be trusted to eat when they were finished. If they said they just weren't hungry then they meant it, so they wouldn't force each other to consume unless they had already gone a few days without a healthy meal. Anara wasn't sure if inconsistent meal times was something she was born with, or had developed from living with her adopted father. Or possibly even something her body had done to cope with when Medusa would deny her food as punishment...

She hoped not. In any case, she couldn't think of anyone better to have picked her up off the street after she was kicked out by that witch.

Suddenly Anara could sense her friends souls approaching from outside. Fucking finally. She left the bowl behind in the kitchen and rushed back up to her room. She loved watching her dad fight. Even if it was against someone far inferior.

The weapons were in their human forms, with Sid chained up behind them. She could feel the tension in the air even from up here. They all stared warily at the laboratory door...

"Pffft!" Anara turned away and covered her laugh with her hands. She had totally seen it coming, but watching her dad speed through the door on his spinny chair, only to get thrown off when he hit the door frame was just too funny. Maybe it was the surprise on his face.  She turned her attention back to the ground as he got up, muttering to himself. He turned the screw in his head and brought the chair back inside.

The next time he came out he did the exact same thing again.
