Every few minutes Kid found himself staring at Anara. Why!? Why was sh-why was he so tall? Why was he still making Kid's heart jump every time he smiled, just like every day since they explored the pyramids? What is this? He couldn't possibly be attracted to Anara, could he? He didn't know, he had never gotten crushes. But it couldn't be, he can't have a crush on a girl and a boy. That wasn't how things worked. Was it? He knew boy could like boys, and that boys could like girls, could they like both? And regardless, it was so soon after they first met! He should just forget about all of this, at least until he was settled as an academy student.
Kid startled when someone waved their hand in front of his face. "Ah, I'm so sorry, what?" Shit. It was Anara, now he probably thought Kid was just being rude and not listening. He hadn't been listening, but not to be rude. He wasn't even sure when he had gotten so lost in his thoughts.
"I was just saying, here's our classroom. We'll be together, with Maka, Soul, Tsubaki and Blackstar. The students you met yesterday." Who? Oh, of course. Those boys who wanted to fight him and their partners. "Are you ok Kid?"
He averted his eyes in guilt. "Yes, my apologies, I just...got lost in my own head."
"Oh," Anara chuckled a little. "Don't worry about it, I do that all the time," He looked up around the sign, of the classroom but staring at nothing. "It's hard to stay in the moment when there are so many interesting things you could be doing, especially here at the academy, there never seems to be a dull moment. And when you hear or read about people's incredible adventures it makes you wish you could do that and imagine scenarios of when you do. But here we're studying so that one day we can have those adventures and not get killed by a kishin when we do. So it's worth it to pay attention, as boring as it may get."
"Yes...you aren't upset? I promise it was not my intention to be rude, but nonetheless..."
"Yeah I know, and like I said, I get it, so no I'm not upset. I've done that to people to every once in a while. Liz and Patty probably wont be happy having to go through again though, so it'll probably just be us when we start over."
"Start-no, no, it was my own fault for not letting you do your job twice now, I can't ask you to do it a third time! I'm sure I'll be fine," He protested.
"Nonsense! Like you said, it's my job. I don't mind. Besides, we're friends now, and I enjoy spending time with you." Kid liked that. He liked the way Anara smiled at him. "If-if you want to be friends of course! You don't have to be my friend if you don't wa-"
"Yes! Yes, we are definitely friends! Well, actually I've never been around others my age until Liz and Patty so I don't really know what friends are like, but I would definitely like to be friends."
"Oh, good. Not that you don't know other people your age, just that you want to be friends. Yes, good, we are friends." They smiled awkwardly at each other for a moment and then both started laughing. Nothing like having questionable social skills to establish relationships, where you definitely know where you stand and don't have to worry about whether or not the person secretly doesn't like you.
"Anyway, we used to have profesor Sid teaching the class until he died. He still works at the DWMA but now my dad, Professor Stein teaches instead. He's cool, you'll--" He hesitated for a moment. "Well...I can't really guarantee that you'll like him but I do. He's not bad as a teacher either."
"I call bull!" A loud voice interjected from the hallway to their right. "All we ever do is take animals apart! And he's super mean about grades!" Blackstar complained, strutting up with Tsubaki trailing behind him.
