Here There be Witches

Before we get into this chapter let me fully explain Anara's powers/abilities.

Medusa had a child with a weapon intending to create an ultimate weapon for herself. During the child's development (pre-birth) she infused it with her own magical power so that it would either become a witch that was also a weapon, or just an absurdly strong witch because it had double the power. However, she began this process too early and the child's (who was originally gonna be a male weapon) powers didn't respond the right way. While Anara eats souls like a normal weapon, the actual weapon part merged with the magic which is why they can only use magic to summon a weapon, not become one or use normal witch powers. Male witches exist (if you remember the guards at the witch prison) but they don't have powers like the female witches. That's why instead of transforming their body into an object, the magic made Anara change gender. Unlike gender fluidity, Anara's entire body physically changes because it was a mutation of the weapon ability. For example, Anara is very physically strong, although female bodies don't show/gain muscle as easily as male bodies do, so when Anara is male, the muscles are much more obvious even though they didn't actually get stronger. Anara also gets taller because males are naturally taller than females.

Medusa kept Anara for 6 years (they are now 15). In the beginning the best Anara could do was summon part of a weapon (like how young weapons can't change their whole bodies without time and practice) and they couldn't control the gender switch. When they were six they could summon a full weapon, but still not use any other witch powers so Medusa got frustrated and threw them out. Stein took them in and (while miraculously resisting the urge to dissect such a unique person) became their new father and helped them recover from the abuse and learn how to interact with other people. (The abuse was different from Crona's because what Medusa wanted from them was different and the dark room didn't bother Anara as much)

Anyway, now that they are more grown and has more experience, Anara recently began to be able to summon other object, such as the boots that disappeared when she stepped into the pyramid of Anubis. They still don't change gender on command well, it usually happens in the middle of the night and then sticks for a few days or weeks and switches back for a few days/weeks. I'm talking in no particular time now so I'm using they/them but it's really just whatever they are that day.

That presence...feels familiar...

"Go, eat all you can, then eat more, and more." No...two-three presences. "Eat as much as you need to, consume everything in your path, until you become the ultimate evil!"

Screaming.

Anara woke with a start. What was that? It didn't feel like a nightmare...but the fear was there. A lot of it. Was it his? Or someone from the dream's? Hmmm...Hey, just forget about it and get dressed before you're late to school. It was just a weird dream.

He grumbled and got out of his warm bed. If he hadn't been used to waking up in this body, he would have been even more disoriented, but the lack of rest was just as bad. Why when you sleep do you not actually get rest if you have nightmares?? They're just bad dreams...

He shuffled over too his closet and began rifling through the left side. He was about to grab one of his favorite shirts, a copy of the one his dad usually wore, but with one missing sleeve and one full length, which was surprisingly warm, but he figured that he shouldn't give Kid a panic attack the same time he had to explain his gender.
