Never alone

Chapter 17

As she walked into her hospital room there stood her teacher and her friends, they looked worried but when they saw her and saw the cake in her hand, their faces adjusted into small smiles.

It was nice to see people happy with her for once instead of them being disappointed or embarrassed like they normally were. Oh well. At least if she had to be here then they were here with her.

"Hey Quinn," Jane said with an outstretching friendly smile.

"Hi, I know this is a weird question but why am I here?" Quinn curiously inquired.

"Well, the first time you hit your head at the inn. Then the second time you were recovering from your concussion and the doctor said that you experienced hallucinations and fainted from your lack of energy" Megan explained.

Quinn's head was filled with confusion because before the first time she came here the last thing she could remember was being in the cave and having a weird electrical like feeling. Megan raised her eyebrows as if to say she would explain later. Quinn wished she could remember.

"So where are we now?" she asked.

"We're in a hospital inland from the holy island. The rest of the class have gone home and you will be shortly after you get the all clear from your doctor".  The nurse walked in and started chattering on to her teacher as Quinn and her friends tried to communicate through mouthing words and hand signals. Eventually, the nurse left and Mr. Reynolds turned his attention back to Quin as she was mouthing something to Megan, her mouth hung open as she had glanced in his direction and realized he was staring at her. 

Closing her mouth she spoke, "Sir, could I have a few minutes with my friends?"

He said nothing just gave a subtle nod of his head and walked out.

The room was silent for an awkward moment and the tension was almost unbearable but despite knowing that she was here for the weirdest reason which she couldn't explain she couldn't help but notice there was someone missing from the room.

"where is Leo ?" she asked while turning to Megan and jane.

before either of them answered Quinns question jane said " Quinn what happened in that cave? we were both so scared for you and all the creatures were so confused when you fainted and they rushed to your side to help us carry you back to the inn. Without them we wouldn't have gotten you back to the inn, Me and Megan have been talking and were both really confused as to how they knew who we were and why they helped us look after you. Do you know something that we don't ?"

slightly confused as to why they would think that she was keeping something from them Quinn sighed "I know just as much as the both of you, we're all confused right now but we'll figure it out. What did the old woman say when the creatures brought me back?"

Megan ranted first "Well it was quite odd actually she came sprinting out of the inn as soon as we got close to it and she just looked so happy to see everyone and she told them to take you upstairs quietly and that in 5 minutes time we should go wake up the teachers and say that you had fallen down the stairs and hit your head. After that, she made sure you were back in your bed before pulling aside the older goblin and started whispering to it in the corner but we couldn't hear a word that they were saying and then she pulled aside the goblin with the black hair and made him promise something to her. After that not much happened just the teachers came to our room and took the four of us to the hospital and sent everybody else home and you know everything else from there on out."

The room was silent for a moment, desperately wanting to change the subject she asked again  " so where is Leo?"

Megan was the first to look at her," He had to go home his parents were worried about him especially after you punched him".

 Before she could even think about it Quinn overcome with shock blurted out, "what do you mean I punched him. That never happened, I would never do that!"

Megan and Jane just gaped at her as if she was crazy. It was then that Quinn remembered that after the first time she had woken up there had been someone in the hospital room with her. Her hands shot to her face to cover her embarrassed face which was no glowing a bright red.

"I did, didn't i. Crap" she muffled from behind her hands.

All sat in this plain hospital room together they all looked at each other and burst out laughing. They didn't know what was so funny about there situation but there was something about the embarrassment and the awkwardness of their lives that fueled their laughter and set them about with another uproar of laughter. 

The girls didn't know how much time had passed but they were still in fits of giggles when Mr. Reynolds came back into the room. In there own little world the girls carried on laughing not realizing that their teacher was standing at the door watching them with a small smile and a confused, concerned tilted head. He should be confused because the scene that was in front of him was a hysterical and weird one, Megan was on the floor rolling about in a fit of smiles and laughter struggling to breath, then there was Jane lying across the chair and flinging her head back in hysterical giggles and then there was Quinn kicking her legs up high into the air as the three of them struggled to breathe.

Mr. Reynolds cleared his throat and tried to wipe the small smile from his face . "girls are you okay?" he asked trying to look serious.

The girls all went redder than ever and looked back at him with huge smiles on their faces until they couldn't take it anymore and they burst out laughing again. This time their teacher couldn't help but join in with their silly fits of giggles, they seemed to be there for so long just gasping for air as they laughed on and on. They all knew they had to stop and eventually there laughter stopped and they breathed normally again.

"Before all that I was coming to tell you that the Hospital has given you the all clear Quinn you just have to be careful for a couple of days. Oh and we'll be getting a taxi to the train station soon so get all of your stuff together" he left the room with a shake of his head and a sincere smile because of their behavior. 

She hadn't noticed before but their belongings were all around them. Doing as she was told for once Quinn quickly got changed grabbed her bag and they all headed down to the reception to start there journey home.

The ride to the train station wasn't too far but it was a bit awkward because Mr. Reynolds insisted on sitting next to Quin to make sure that she was alright which then lead to Jane having to sit next to the driver, which she was not happy about,  janes face was twisted in snarls the whole way to the train  station.

They trudged onto the train with their bags and Mr. Reynolds in tow and they barely had time to find their seats before the train started. They walked over a table and sat down but Mr. Reynolds decided to sit across from them on a two-seater. He put his headphones over his twisted ears and fell asleep shortly after.

The girls although having the freedom to talk now as they were all extremely tired after there strange, confusing night that they had been through and their tiredness was slowly but surely creeping up on them and as it reached them it lured them into a dreamy sleep one by one until they were all fast asleep.
