Evangelista's POV

I felt terrible about giving Lissa up. But what more could I do? He had easily found out about Lissa, probably from my aura. I should have been more careful, but now it was a lost cause. Now he was probably going to try to kill her. People were going to die and was my fault. I should have just sucked it up instead of being a big baby. Honestly, I couldn't even feel the gun shot wound now. I felt so guilty. I had failed to protect my best friend's charge. My whole life of training wasted. How would anyone ever let me protect Eden now. My dreams of being Eden's primary guardian was out the door. My life was practically pointless. But then I realized. I didn't care what he did to me. I didn't care about the pain in my now broken leg or anywhere else he had hit me. There was only one thing in my mind. I had to get out of here. I had to help protect her. But how?

I looked around for anything to help me escape. A bobby pin, scissors, anything. But I soon realized it was pointless because as soon as I got rid of the chains, there was no way in hell that I could walk, forget getting to court. Suddenly I heard noises upstairs. Must be Percy. But I thought he'd left. Then I heard someone call my name, "Evangelista?! Are you here?" The sweet voice was Rhydian's, laced with fear and worry. I tried to scream for help but the cloth in my mouth made it quieter. I kept screaming and I soon realized I had started crying hot, angry tears from my feeling of helplessness. Taking a deep breath, I listened as I heard him walking around upstairs looking for me. I heard more voices and footsteps. There were more guardians. I could here them talking. "She's not here Morris. No one is here. This place is abandoned. If we want to find her we have to move on."

"You're right..." I could hear the worry in his voice. "I could have sworn... No. Let's go." No. NO NO NO! He couldn't leave now. He was so close. I tried to break free of the chains. In my struggle, I coughed the cloth out of my mouth. Before the cloth had even fallen to the ground, I was screaming and rattling the chains as loud as I could. Finally the sweet noise of footsteps racing to me could be heard as I heard the front door break open. "Rhydian!" I yelled out. The footsteps stopped abruptly. "Rhydian! Basement!" I made out, breath quickly being used up with every breath I used to stay awake. I heard the footsteps pick up again and soon enough the basement door was kicked in and there stood Rhydian, fear in his eyes as he saw me.
