Evangelista's POV
I was alone again in the infirmary room. Rose had done me a great favor and pulled all the curtain back so now I could scope out my surroundings. The rest of the infirmary was empty, leaving me all alone in the huge room. Getting up, I limped over to where I saw a pair of crutches leaned against the wall. With one foot in perfectly good shape, I could go places and the first place I wanted to go was anywhere but here. Places with people seemed to be my safest bet because the confusion would prove to be a good distraction for my get away and eventual helping in this war. Once I got on my crutches, I began to crutch walk towards the direction of where the weapons room seemed to be.
Now I understand that this was court and places like the weapons room were usually supposed to be under 24/7 surveillance but in a war like this, no one cared. Anybody's help was appreciated and I really needed something to help me defend myself. Inside the weapon's room, while I tried to find a gun or something, I glanced at the front surveillance camera which showed the entrance to the court. It was a horrible sight. Bodies were strewn and some were actually... Strigoi. Some Strigoi had taken Percy's uprising to their advantage and used him as a distraction to accomplish their own attacks. I shook my head and looked back to the bare room. Almost all the weapons were gone... except for a few stakes and among a few broken weapons, a bow.
I couldn't help the smile that formed on my face. A bow. One of my favorite weapons. Of course no one used it anymore because of the whole crossbow thing and there being other better weapons but sometimes, you had to make do. And that was exactly what I was going to do. Grabbing all the remaining stakes, I stuffed them in my pockets and grabbed the bow, testing the string. From the sound of the vibration, it seemed fine. A scream from the video camera alerted me to get back into my plan. Slinging the bow over my shoulder, I crutch-walked towards the sounds of screaming and yelling. Where the fight was, Percy would be.
Lissa's POV
I tried to ignore the commotion going on outside. I kept reminding myself that everything would be fine. The place was surrounded by guardians and I had my best friends Rose and Eden beside me. Looking beside me, I saw Eden shivering and crying quietly. "Eden? Don't cry." I said as I drew her into a hug. The poor girl was scared out of her mind. "Evangelista... she.... She's so hurt." She cried as Rose turned around and saw Eden. See, the four of us felt as close as sisters. Eden was like the little sister to Evangelista who she believed would always protect her. And I felt like an older sister to Eden, teaching her the ways of the court and royalty. And then Rose thought of Evangelista as a little sister. The both of them had bonded over the fact that their family was practically non-existent to them. Not to mention their guardian duties and the fact that they were very alike even though Evangelista wasn't as half as reckless and edgy like Rose.
Either way, the four of us were like this little family and this Percy guy was ruining it all. Rose told me to go take Eden and sit in a corner. She was right. If we had to run, we needed to be ready and Eden was in no shape to go anywhere. Going to the back of the safe room, I let her lean her head on my shoulder as I tried to push into Evangelista's consciousness. It took a while and I could tell she was brimming with a ton of emotions, including fear, anger and more but soon I pushed through and entered her conciousness. "Evangelista." She was fighting me coming into her head so I was forced to somewhat take a ride in her body as she crutch walked somewhere.
"It's me, Lissa." I said and she suddenly stopped. "Oh! It's you. I thought you were Percy, he used to to that with his spirt. Are you okay?" I could hear the fear and pain in her voice as she walked. "I'm fine, there are plenty of guardians. There is nothing to worry about." I said as she nodded. "Lissa, you know I can't stop worrying. I should have been there with you and Eden. I need to be able to protect her and fight." She said. "What are you doing?" I asked as I saw her surroundings, around her, two strigoi lay dead, stakes in their chests. "How are you doing that?" I asked as she explained how she started shooting stakes from a bow. I was impressed at her dedication. She really did hate sitting at the sidelines.
I took a deep breath. "Alright. I guess you want to come to me?" I asked, knowing she would get killed if she accidentally went to the wrong place. "There must be like a back door or something for me to get inside without Percy noticing." She said as I hesitated before answering her. "There are tunnels underneath every building at Court. They all lead here. Where are you?" She took a minute to answer, vision going hazy for a minute before she stabilized and answered. "Outside the throne room." My mind immediately went to one thing. "Get out of there. That's the last known place of Percy before he took out the surveillance cameras" I yelled as she muttered a few curse words and crutch-walked as fast as humanly possible. "How do I get to the tunnels?" She asked. I explained to her where the entrance was before I had to go.
Breaking into people's consciousness, especially when they try to fight against it took a lot of energy. And I needed to be alert if I had to evacuate for any reason. I left the dream and returned to the real world. Looking around, I saw that nothing had changed much but the fact that Rose stood in front of me, as if to cover me from anyone's line of vision. I was going to take a deep breath of relief before I heard a loud crash as the door flew open. I let out a scream as I saw him standing there with his red eyes. "Hello, Your Majesty." He said with the coldest tone I'd ever heard.
