Yawning, I let myself fall onto the couch next to Cia. I had just come home from an exhausting day at work and I was glad I could finally relax a little bit. My phone vibrated in the back pocket of my jeans. Groaning, I reached for it and pulled it out.
Conejo🐰❣️: Remember when I said, I was going to write a song about you?
Bonita🌺💞: Yeah, why?
Conejo🐰❣️: I just uploaded the music video to it. It's called MIA
Benito had gone to the studio quite often while being in LA. He had said that it were just finishing touches. "Cia, could you switch to YouTube real quick?" I asked my best friend. "Why?" she replied confused. "Benito said, he released a song called MIA." I answered, showing her the text message. Nodding, she pressed the YouTube button on the remote and typed the name of the song and Benito's stage name into the search box. Immediately, a music video popped up; she clicked on it. We both watched it attentively. I liked the beat of it and I was a little surprised, when I heard Drake sing in Spanish. "Is there such street parties in Puerto Rico?" Cia asked in the middle of watching the video. "Yeah, he took me to one of those BBQs." I answered, not looking away from the TV screen. "That's a good song." my best friend commented, after we had finished listening to it. I nodded in agreement. "What is he singing about? I can't find any translations." I then asked Cia, when I tried to find the lyrics in English. "He says that you're entirely his and that he won't be sharing you. Oh, and that you said it yourself, when you did you know what." she summed it up. A smile spread across my face as I thought about that night. "Didn't know he was that romantic." I said, looking at her. "How? You've been dating for about three months now." she replied confused. "So far he hasn't really shown it, but that's alright." I explained, shrugging. Really, I didn't mind. Even though I was a hopeless romantic, I was completely fine with dating someone who was not because I knew that not everybody was into expressing feelings with chocolates and roses. Besides, Benito had also told me that he always tried to show how he felt, but sometimes just couldn't and that's exactly what he had his music for. The song was stuck in my head and I needed to listen to it again, so I got up from the couch and went into my room. While listening to it, I received a text from Benito.
Conejo🐰❣️: Do you like it?
Bonita🌺💞: Like? I absolutely love it!
Conejo🐰❣️: I'm glad you do!
Since it was quite late, I decided to go to bed. Before falling asleep, I thought about how fast my life had changed. In only five months, Benito had made my life more exciting than it had ever been and all in all, I was genuinely happy. Of course, everyone around me noticed that and it seemed that ever since I was dating somebody, it seemed like everybody wanted a piece of me. Just a couple of days before, a new male nurse had started working at the our hospital. His name was Lucas, he was 25 and very nice. We got along very well and it was nice to talk to somebody other than Damon, Felícia or Benito. As I was thinking about my life, I slowly fell asleep.
With a coffee in my hand, I walked into the dressing room of the hospital. I had roughly 20 minutes left before my shift started, so I used that time drink the coffee and eat my sandwich I had packed for breakfast. Lucas also walked into the dressing room with a big smile on his face. "Good morning, Casey." he said, sitting down next to me. "Morning!" I greeted him, looking up from my phone. "You wanna grab lunch with me today?" he asked, putting his backpack onto the floor. "Sure! What did you have in mind?" I questioned. "There's a small diner down the street. Haven't had a burger in ages!" he answered, stretching next to me. "Alright, then let's meet here at 12?" I suggested, before taking a sip of my coffee. He nodded in response, then got up and walked over to his locker. Lucas put his stuff into it - he was already wearing his work clothes -, said his goodbyes and then walked out of the room again. After finishing my sandwich and coffee, I got changed and started my shift as well.
At half past 12, Lucas and I were sitting in one of the booths at the diner. We had already ordered our foods and were talking about life. I received a text from Benito which caused me to smile. "Your boyfriend?" Lucas asked, when he noticed my smile. "Yeah, he sent me a picture." I answered, showing him the photo. "Cute!" he commented. I replied to the text, locked my phone and put it back into my pocket. "So, how does that work between you two? You mentioned his mother tongue is Spanish, right?" Lucas then broke the silence between us. "Yeah, but he speaks English and I'm learning how to speak Spanish. Plus, I really like his accent." I explained. "And does he live here?" he wanted to know. "He has an apartment here, but his home is Puerto Rico." I answered. Our conversation was interrupted by the waiter, bringing our drinks. We thanked him both and then continued to talk. "I assume, you don't get to see each other very often then." Lucas said, after taking a sip of his coke. "Yeah, well, it's okay. We talk on the phone every day and it's just wonderful, when he's here." I replied, shrugging. "Wow! I couldn't do that, really, I'm glad that Caroline lives here." he said, smiling. Caroline was his fiancé, they had been together for almost ten years, and were expecting a little baby girl. "I don't think that it's gonna stay like that forever. Maybe I'll move to Puerto Rico one day, maybe he'll move here, you never know." I replied, playing around with the straw in my soda. "How long have you guys been dating?" Lucas asked, when the waiter came back to bring our food. Again, we thanked him. "Um, roughly three months. It's still fresh." I answered, grabbing one of the fries from my plate. After eating, we went back to the hospital. The rest of my shift was stressful, we had a lot of emergencies coming in, so I was constantly running around, cleaning things and making beds for the new patients. At around half past four, I had already changed and made my way to the bus station. A car pulled up next to me, it was Lucas - well, he was sitting on the passenger's seat since Caroline had picked him up. "We'll give you a ride, Casey!" she said, after he had rolled down the window. Smiling, I nodded and got into the back of the car. I also liked Caroline, she was very nice as well and reminded me a little bit of my sister.
