Benito and I had a couple of days left until he would fly back to Puerto Rico. He had gone back home after I had met his parents, but because of the Grammys, which he had been invited to, he had come back for about a week. We were cuddling on his couch, watching a movie, when my phone kept vibrating on the coffee table. Lazily, I reached for it to see who had texted me. Cia had sent me a link to an article by Billboard. Curiously, I clicked on it and I wish I hadn't.
Bad Bunny in love?
Bad Bunny was seen out with his alleged ex-girlfriend last Friday. The pair spent a long day at the beach of San Juan and seemed to have a lot of fun. Also they were spotted holding hands, while enjoying a walk through the old town. After grabbing something to eat at a small restaurant, they apparently went to her apartment. "I think they might rekindle their love." a source close to both of them told us. So far, neither of them has confirmed anything, but we're crossing our fingers for them.
Since I knew that such articles weren't the most reliable things, I locked my phone and put it back onto the coffee table. I had to ask him, but a part of me was scared that he'd confirm it. After thinking about it for a couple of minutes, I sat up and looked at him. "Benito, can I ask you something?" I started carefully. He looked away from the TV screen, sat up and paused the movie. "Sure, mi amor. What's wrong?" he replied, grabbing one of my hands. He knew that something was up, because I usually didn't call him by his real name, when we were hanging out. It was either Conejo or Cariño - which he had taught me, meant something like "baby". "When you were at home, what did you do?" I wanted to know. "I hung out with my brothers and caught up with some old friends. Why are you asking?" he answered, shrugging. Old friends? "No particular reason, I was just wondering." I said, nodding. "Are you sure about that?" he asked, looking at me concerned. I wanted to say something, but was interrupted by his phone ringing. Benito looked at the caller ID, got up from the couch and excused himself to his office. I really didn't want to eavesdrop on him, but he would usually answer all of his calls in front of me. "Maria, escúchame, te extraño también, pero no puedo hablar en este momento. Vamos a hablar de yo cuando regreso a Puerto Rico, ¿de acuerdo?" I heard him say quietly. My heart sank to my knees. Then he said his goodbyes, so I quickly went back to the couch and grabbed my phone. "Sorry, you wanted to say something?" he said, entering the living room. Instead of answering, I showed him the article on my phone. His facial expression changed from happy to shocked. "Please, tell me that it's not true, Benito." I started. "Sadly, it is. I did meet up with Maria last Friday." he admitted, looking at his feet. "So, when you texted me that you weren't going to be able to reply because you were playing Basketball with Nicky, you lied to me?" I wanted to know. I actually wanted to scream and yell at him, but all that came out were either whispers or soft mumbles because I knew that my voice would break if I was going to get louder. Benito nodded, looking up at me. "Look, Casey, I know how that seems like, but I swear to god that nothing happened between me and her." he told me, coming towards me. I backed up a little, signalizing him that I needed that kind of space at that moment. "Why did you meet up with her then?" I wanted to know. "She needed some advice and since we're still friends, I was willing to give her that." he explained. "And why didn't you tell me?" I then questioned, getting angrier with every word I said. "I didn't want you to worry. Looking back at it, that was wrong, but I swear we were not holding hands and that was definitely not a date!" he said with a pleading look in his eyes. Slowly, I started to nod. I didn't believe a word he said, simply because I knew that his ex had called him only a couple minutes before, and because he had told her that he missed her. "Do you miss her?" I asked, before walking past him. "As a friend, yes, but not as my girlfriend." he answered, coming after me. I was putting on my shoes, but he stopped me. "What are you doing, mi amor?" he wanted to know, when he realized that I was about to leave. "I'm going home." I informed him, reaching down to my purse. "Casey, don't do this, please." he begged, grabbing my hand before I could open the door to his apartment. "You expect me to stay? I just found out that you lied to me because you intentionally met up with one of your ex-girlfriends who I remember you told me about how she was the first girl to ever break your heart, and that you didn't even think about telling me. I told you that I'd be gone if you ever lied to me. All I expected was for you to be honest, Benito." I snapped. I was furious in that moment and I didn't care that my voice was cracking. Whenever I got extremely mad, I started to get tears in my eyes. "Casey, I'm sorry, it won't happen again, I promise, but please, don't do this." he pleaded, when I opened the door. "I can't, I'm sorry." I answered, before pulling the door shut behind me. Of course, it opened again and he came after me, but by the time he had reached the bottom of the staircase, I had already left the house. "Casey!" I heard him call my name. He caught up with me, right before the bus I was going to take came around the corner of the street. "What?" I turned around to face him. "I'm sorry, I'll do anything I can to make this up to you, I promise, but please, just don't leave me." he said, trying to catch his breath. "I'm sorry, Benito, but it's over." I told him, before getting onto the bus. On my way home, all I did was stare out of the window and quietly cry. Honestly, I had seen it coming, so I wasn't even surprised anymore that this relationship had come to an end the same way like any other one I had ever had. Either the guy lied about something or they cheated and I was sick of it.
