Beth Goodman
A ruthless, cutthroat photojournalist, always on the hunt for her next scoop and willing to do whatever it takes to get it. Even if the means are less than legal. Beth has butted heads with the dedicated detectives of New York's SVU more than once over the last ten-odd years of her career. Sometimes, she's a nuisance; other times, she's an asset.
While in the midst of investigating the rampant sexual misconduct and assaults of a private Catholic school, repressed memories come to the surface of her own abuse. With nowhere else to turn, Beth goes to her contact in SVU and purges every dirty, sordid detail of what happened to her and what she was made to do. The statute of limitations is up, she's told, nothing to be done unless the priest that raped and abused her is A. still a live and B. mentally sound and still actively abusing kids.
Months go by with nothing. Months of therapy and binge-drinking don't help, nor does harassing the DA to do his "damn job". Fed up, Beth writes a story about her abuse and sneaks it into the front page of her paper. Then a victim come forward, and another, and another but all are far too old to bring up charges.
A year goes by, nothing happens. Then a fifteen year old girl walks into the squad room with a story very similar to Beth's and the other victims. This is a case they can work, and Beth is more than happy to help every step of the way.
