"Hey, Evelyn?! Do you know where my curlers are?" I called from my bed. Evelyn was in the bathroom fixing her hair. Tonight the girls wanted to go to the beach bar. We were all meeting Danny there with the rest of the guys.

"No!" Evelyn shouted back. I sighed as I attempted to style my hair without my much-needed curlers. As I began to finish pinning up my uncurled golden locks, Betty walked into my bedroom blushing.

"Oh, Carol! You'll never believe what Red did for me! He just dropped a letter off with a rose attached telling me to meet him on the beach at dusk!" She beamed.

"That sounds amazing!" I responded. Suddenly, I noticed my familiar pink rollers in her hair.

"Hey, Betty? By any chance did you happen to take my rollers?" I accused nonchalantly.

"Ummm, no... Besides, it's not like you need them, silly. Your hair already has a beautiful natural curl." She points out. I roll my eyes as I sigh in frustration.

"Fine, whatever. Just do me a favor and just ask next time?" I suggest. Betty just keeps smiling as she nods her head in affirmation as she leaves the room. That girl may just be the death of me. She's always takin' my things, but I can't really be upset with her. She's always been so carefree like a child. I honestly hope that she and Red do end up gettin' married. They are the perfect couple. They both are so innocent and naive.

"Carrie?! Are you almost ready?!" Evelyn calls.

"Yeah! We all got guys we need to see!" Barbra chimes in.

"Coming!" I call back. I stand up and look in the mirror one last time. My blue dress hugs my curves while still modestly covering most of my skin. I have always hated the riskier outfits and dresses girls my age are always wearing. Some people call me old fashioned, but I think I'm just a little insecure. I grab my purse and an extra tube of bright red lipstick, then I'm off and out the door with all the other nurses.

When we arrive at the beach bar, I see Danny is sitting alone on the opposite side of the bar watching the other pilots who were immersed in a drinkin' game. He hasn't seen me yet, so, naturally, I take this opportunity to sneak up behind him. I wanted to get him back for scaring me at the beach. I am directly behind him when I grab his shoulders and jerk him backward. He gasps as he manages to retain his balance. I am giggling when I see the look on his face as he glares back at me.

"God, Carrie. Didn't know you were that strong. I thought you were a man." He stated exasperatedly. I playfully glared back before he stood up and spun me around.

"Danny! Put me down!" I yelled in a low tone. A smirk spread across his lips before he lowered me into a kiss. When we parted, I had the biggest smile on my face.

"Get a room!" Goose yelled from across the bar. Both Danny and I blushed.

"Let's get outta here," Danny whispered into my ear. He pulled me out of the bar and towards the beach. The moon was glistening over the water and the white sand reflected the pale light so brightly, to were it looked like daytime. When we reach the water's edge, we just stand there, taking in the beautiful view. The cool, crystal water submerges our feet as the waves crash against the silent shore. Danny interlocks our hands. His warm rough hands embrace my small soft ones. I am beginning to believe that coming to Pearl Harbor was the best decision I've ever made. Eventually, Danny and I sat down in the sand a good distance from the water, to prevent from gettin' wet. My head rested upon his shoulder as we sat in a comfortable silence.

"Carrie?" I heard Danny ask in a soft tone.

"Hmmm?" I hummed in response.

"After work tomorrow, do you think it'd be alright if I take you out?" He questioned nervously. I tried not to laugh, but I just couldn't help it.

"Of course. You've known me since we were children, and our feelings aren't exactly a secret. So why the hell are you nervous to ask me out?" I laugh in response.

"Well, technically, this would be our first official date. You know, where I have actually asked you out." I attempted to contain my laughter once again. I could tell he was trying to be sincere, but I ended up bursting into a fit of giggles. He's so cute when he over thinks simple things. Gosh, I felt like a little girl again.

"What, ok? I'm nervous. You know I've never been very good at this type of stuff." He rambled.

"Oh trust me, I know. Do you remember in grade school, when you had a crush on Sally Thompson, but you were too terrified to actually talk to her."  I said, smiling fondly at the memories of our childhood. Danny chuckled under his breath. We ended up sitting in a comfortable silence once again, just listening to the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.

"Do you think we'll join the war in Europe?" I ask suddenly. Danny must've been caught off-guard by my question because he pauses before he responds.

"I believe that all this fightin' is just talk. There's no way we'll be dragged into a European war unless they attack us first. Rafe only wanted to fight because he's a fighter. He believes that fighting is the solution. I'm glad the rest of America isn't the same way." I am stunned by his answer. I never really thought about it like that. I have been so worried about the people I care about going off to fight, I never stopped to think about it as Danny had. But something was still bothering me. A single burning question in the back of my mind.

"Do you think Rafe will come back?" I blurt out.

"I know he will. He had to. He is a fighter, which means he won't give up easily. Besides he is one hell of a pilot. Even if he does make some of the dumbest decisions." He laughs. I giggle as well and before we know it, we are reciting some of our best and funniest childhood memories. Most of which include Rafe and Danny gettin' into some kind of trouble. I can't believe that moving here would bring me so much happiness. I mean, I got to spend almost every day with the people I love. How I wish I knew how all of that was about to change. Drastically.
