Danny's POV
It's been three hours since Rafe and I brought Carrie to the hospital. Reluctantly, Rafe and I had to go help move and identify some of the bodies. I tried to keep myself busy so I wouldn't think about Carrie. Rafe knew how worried I was so he didn't say much. Instead, he just occasionally made sure I wasn't breakin' down.
The sun was already settin' as Rafe and I head back to the hospital. I can't help but move quickly. I was full of unreleased emotion but most importantly nervous to know the state of the woman I love. When we enter the hospital, I break out into a run towards the last room I saw Carrie in. I turn a corner and run down the hallway where the small room is located. I had noticed that many of the patients that had been crowding the hallways are no longer there. That means they were either dead, healed, or moved somewhere else. As I reached the door to the room Carrie was last in, I see Evelyn open the door. Her face holds a mixture of feelings. The most notable being sadness.
"Danny... the doctor did everything he could. She's stabilized but... he doesn't think she'll wake back up. I'm so sorry." Evelyn cried. My heart shattered into a million pieces. She has to wake up. She's a fighter. I was at a loss for words. I brushed past Evelyn and stepped into the room. All the other patients appeared to have been moved from the room to where it was just Carrie on a small rolling bed. She looked like she was in a peaceful sleep. Like she was gonna wake up any moment. I pulled up one of the small, extra chairs in the room, so I was sittin' next to her. I grabbed her hand and held onto it for dear life. My eyes were filled with tears and a small sob escaped my lips as I buried my face into her pale, limp hand.
"Carrie. I need you to wake up. Please. We are supposed to spend our lives together. We are goin' to buy a small farmhouse and get married. Then we'll have kids of our own. So, please wake up. I don't wanna be alone. I wanna start our lives together." I sobbed. I didn't know if she could hear me but I had to give it a shot. I felt someone's hand on my shoulder. I turned to see Rafe standin' there with Evelyn who was cryin'. I could see the unshed tears threatening to pour out of Rafe's eyes. I turn back to Carrie and give her hand a hard squeeze which isn't returned.
Carrie's POV
I'm standin' in a meadow near my childhood home. The sun is bright and shining in a clear blue sky. Wildflowers are growing all around me in various colors. A warm breeze blows which makes my golden locks float in the wind. I close my eyes and feel the wind on my face and the sun's warm rays that are bein' soaked up into my skin. When I open my eyes, I see my Daddy standin' a short distance in front of me. I gasp in surprise as my eyes well up in happiness.
"Daddy?" I called out. He simply smiles in return and opens his arms wide. I run towards him and he catches me in his warm embrace.
"I missed you, Daddy," I whisper in his ear.
"I've missed you too, baby girl." He says in response. When we finally pull away from our embrace, I finally take a good look around.
"Daddy, where are we? Am I dead?" I ask. I'm scared to hear his answer. If I'm bein' honest with myself, I don't wanna be dead. I still have so much to look forward to. I want to be able to marry Danny and buy a house and have kids. I also wanna be able to watch them grow up and be able to grow old with Danny. My Daddy takes a deep breath before responding.
"Not yet, darlin'. You have some things that need tendin' to before you can come back." He says. I nod my head in understandin' before I let a tear slip.
"Daddy, I miss you so much. I'm just so tired. I just wanna come home." I cry.
"I know, peanut. But you are gonna come home soon. Just not right now, alright?" My Daddy coos. I wipe my tears away before lookin' up at my Daddy one last time.
"I love you, Daddy," I whisper before everything turns into a bright light.
Danny's POV
I've been sittin' next to Carrie's bed for four hours now and she hasn't woken up yet. Maybe she isn't gonna wake up. Maybe she really is gone. Rafe and Evelyn left a couple of hours ago to help prepare some of the caskets for departure back to the states. They also went to tell Red about Betty. I am lucky enough to be able to hold onto a delusional hope of Carrie wakin' up while there's no chance that Red can hold onto for Betty.
Soon my eyes begin to grow heavy with exhaustion. I've had a long day. I start to nod off, but my eyes shoot open at the small movement of Carrie's hand in mine. I glance up towards her face to see her eyes flutterin' open. Tears of joy cause my vision to go blurry.
"Carrie?" I choke out. A small pained smile graces her lips.
"Hey there, flyboy."
