It's been a week since we got the news about Rafe. Evelyn has not been takin' it well. Whenever we aren't workin' she's cooped up in her room. At work, she doesn't talk to anybody and she maintains the same cold neutral expression. Every night I hear her crying herself to sleep. I, on the other hand, have grieved by throwing myself into my work to numb the pain. Danny has been doin' the same it seems like. Today, we all decided we needed a break from work, and that we would all go together to the movies. Barbra also really wanted to attempt to get Evelyn out of the house. Betty and Barbra worked their miracle magic and actually convinced Evelyn to tag along with us. Betty helped her get dressed while the rest of the nurses, myself included, waited for them in the living room.

"How are ya feelin', doll?" Barbra asked gently. I shrugged my shoulders in response. Honestly, I don't know how I am feelin'. Danny and I haven't really spoken lately. We both thought it would be a good idea to grieve in our own way. Apparently that way was to avoid the other person.

"You know you can talk to us, Carol. We are your friends." Sandra commented setting a hand on my knee.

"I know. It's just really painful to talk about. I'd rather just leave it." I sighed. Sandra removed her hand and she nodded in understanding. Suddenly, we all heard footsteps and turned to see Evelyn in a plain blue dress with raven hair cascading over her shoulders. She was also wearing her signature bright red lipstick that I haven't seen paint her lips in a while. She looked, on the outside at least, like her usual self. However I couldn't help but notice her glassed over gaze and strained small smile she wore. She was clearly still hurting.

"Alright, I think we are all ready to go. We are gonna have to hurry if we wanna make it on time." Betty announced. I stood up from the small arm chair I was sitting in and followed all the other nurses out the door. I made sure to walk near Evelyn to keep an eye on her.

Time skip

Once we arrived at the theater we could all see the large crowd of military personnel handing in their tickets and walking into the theater. If we didn't hurry, there wouldn't be any seats left.

"Alright. Does everyone have their tickets?" Barbra yelled into the group of nurses who were all busy chatting amongst themselves. Barbra must've taken the constant talking as an answer because she immediately turned around and marched into the theater with Sandra and Betty following close behind.

We all entered the theater and found a center row of seats which appeared to be all unoccupied. The small group of nurses took up the entire row. I chose to sit next to Evelyn who sat on the end. The film began to play, and I wasn't surprised to find that it was another propaganda film issued by the government to warn us about the continuation of the war in Europe. Footage from the war was shown which included several clips of allied planes being shot down by the luftwaffe. Evelyn stood up and briskly walked out of the theater. I immediately followed her because quite frankly, I couldn't stand to watch the film anymore. When I pushed open the theater doors, I see Evelyn standing on the street, alone.

"Evelyn?" I called. She ignored me. I walked up to her and put my hand on her shoulder to make her face me. When she turned towards me, I could see the mascara mixed with tears runnin' down her face.

"I think I'm gonna head back to the house." She sniffled.

"Okay. Do you want me to go with you?" I asked, concerned. She shook her head and muttered,

"I just wanna be alone." I watched her quickly walk away. I was just about to follow her until I heard a familiar voice behind me.

"Hey Carrie. Are you alright? I saw you leave the theater." I turn to see Danny standing behind me.
