The bright sun refracted off the water's surface as we floated through the harbor. Evelyn and I sat on our luggage as Barbra and some of the other girls flirted with the sailors on the boats we passed. Apparently, Danny and the boys were being stationed here as well. At least I would still be with Danny. Rafe already deployed to England last week. Evelyn has been writing to him every day since he's left. I don't know how I would feel if I was in her position. If it was Danny instead of Rafe being sent over to the other side of the world to fight a war that the U.S. wasn't even apart of. I probably wouldn't be able to act as strong as Evelyn. I just hope Rafe is safe. He has always been like a big brother to me. If he were to not come back, I don't know what'd I do.

"Come on, girls! We're in Hawaii! Cheer up! It's party time!" Barbra shouted, pulling me from my deep thoughts.

"See ya on the beach boys!!" Barbra yelled towards the sailors. I giggled at her obnoxious flirtation. I have a feeling this is going to be one hell of a trip.

When the boat finally docked, we all grabbed our luggage and made for Mainstreet.

"Alright, ladies. First, we have to drop our luggage off at our rental house. Then we have to head to the hospital for orientation." I instructed.

"Will we still have time to hit the beach?" Betty snickered. I raised my eyebrows in her direction.

"What do you think?" I asked sarcastically.

"Yes?" Barbra chimed in hopefully.

"Ugh, fine. Yes, you will have time, that is if there aren't many patients at the hospital!" I warned as all the girls began to silently cheer.  To my dismay, there was barely anyone at the hospital. This means I will have to sit on the beach and get sand in my swimsuit. How lovely. Don't get me wrong, I love the ocean, but I despise the sand. When we arrived at the hospital we were shown around by a veteran nurse who has already been working here for the past few months. When we were shown in the patient ward, there was only one patient. It appeared that he was the only patient to be in there in a while because all of the beds were perfectly neat. The poor patient appeared to have quite a serious sunburn. The clueless soldier must've forgotten to apply sunscreen.  The nurse tending to him smacked his red sunburned ass. He immediately hissed in pain. As we left the ward all the nurses were giggling madly. Myself included.

We finally arrive at the beach about 2 hours later. As I laid out a towel, all the other nurses ran off. Barbra and Betty went swimming while Sandra ran off to find a good shady spot to read. Only Evelyn and I were left.

"Hey, Carol. I think I'm going to go write a letter to Rafe. See you later!" She called as she walked away with a notepad and pen in hand. I was then left all alone. I might as well attempt to get a nap in before tonight. I already know the girls are gonna wanna go out on the town. I put my shades on and lay on my stomach, where I attempt to get comfortable. As I closed my eyes I saw someone step in front of me, blocking the sun. I look up to see who it is, but the glare from the sun blocks out their face.

"I never thought I would see the day where you actually wore a bikini." I knew that voice. Its southern drawl always reminded me of home. Danny.

"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be training?" I asked surprised.

"Nah, we got our first day to ourselves." He smiled. I stood up and wrapped my arms around him.

"Wanna go for a swim?" I asked while looking up to meet his chocolate brown eyes. His smile immediately widened as he began to drag me behind him towards the water. When we reached the water's edge, Danny picked me up and threw me over his shoulder.

"Daniel Walker put me down or so help me-" I squealed before he dropped me into the crystal clear water. When I came up for air, I gave him a playful glare. He just chuckled in response. I retaliated by tackling him into the aqua waves. When we both pop up above the surface, Danny placed his lips on mine. I kissed him back before I turned and swam farther away from shore, towards the reef that was only a few yards away at this point. I could hear Danny splashing towards me, but I knew I was always a much faster swimmer when I eventually learned how. I finally reach the reef and I stand up to see how far Danny is behind me. However, he was nowhere to be seen. It was like he disappeared.

"Danny?!?" I called. There was no response. I soon began to panic.

"Danny, come on this isn't funny," I called once again. Suddenly, I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist and pull me under the crashing waves. I screamed before realizing that it was Danny. When I felt the warm air on my skin again, I turned towards Danny and stared into his eyes.

"Danny?! What the -" He cut me off, like he always does, with a kiss. He lifted me up into his strong, toned arms and I locked my legs around his waist.

"I love you." He mumbled against my lips. I smiled and pulled away to gaze into his brown eyes that always remind me of home.

"I love you too," I whisper before connecting our lips once again. I think I may like Hawaii if this is an average day.
