Today had been unusually busy at the hospital. Apparently, a group of sailors started a fight. So, the majority of my day consisted of giving stitches and bandaging minor wounds. Evelyn was dragging her feet due to her mild hangover. I gave her some medicine to help with her headache, but she was still pretty out of it. After work, I walked back to the rental house with Evelyn to make sure she was okay to stay home by herself. When we arrived, we were met by Barbra and Sandra who were sitting on the front porch enjoying some lemonade and talking about their long workday.

"Hey, Babs and Sandy," I said as Evelyn and I walked up to the porch steps.

"Hey, Girlies. What are y'all up to today? Me and Sandra were thinking about headin' up to the beach bar to meet Betty and Red. I'm trying to get Sandra a man." Barbra giggled. I smile as Sandra blushed a bright shade of red.

"I would love to join you guys, but I have a date tonight." I sighed. I could feel my cheeks heat up as I blushed just thinking about my date with Danny. Barbra gave me a knowing smile before she turned toward Evelyn, who was standing quietly, appearing to be lost in her thoughts.

"Evelyn, how about you join us?" Sandra asked.

"Uh, I'd rather take a nap. I have had a headache all day. I'm also feeling nauseous." Evelyn complained as she put a hand to her head. Barbra and Sandra gave each other a sad look.

"Go. Sandra and I will look after Evelyn. Go have fun with Danny." Barbra whispered into my ear. I gave her a thankful smile and ran upstairs to begin getting ready for my date. I know I'm going to need to hurry if I am to make it to the airstrip on time considering it is already 4:30 pm and Danny gets off at 5:00. I hope I'm not late.

Danny's POV

The boys and I were workin' on one of the B-17 planes. We are trying to fix the accuracy of the guns. Apparently, nobody on this damn island knows how to aim.

"Goose! Hand me the wrench!" I yelled from the other side of the plane.

"Uhh, Danny? I believe you have a visitor." Goose yelled back. I pop my head over the wing I was workin' on. I look down the airstrip. All I see is pilots and Sargents walking from plane to plane. Then I see her. Carrie is walking towards me wearing a beautiful red dress that compliments her fair complexion and blonde hair. I duck behind the wing to make sure she didn't see me staring.

"Jesus," I mumbled.

"What's wrong, Walker?" Red practically yells from under the plane.

"Guys, I think I'm fallin' for her," I say, breathless.

"Ain't that a good thing?" Tony calls from the other wing.

"Yeah, but what if she doesn't feel the same?" I confess.

"Dude. Do you see the way she's dressed?" A young pilot named Joey pointed out.

"Didn't you tell us she said that she loves ya?" Goose asked.

"Ok, ok! I get it. Now shut up! She's almost over here." I say. Right on cue, she calls out my name.

"Danny!" I take my glasses off my head and attempted to look as relaxed as possible, but whenever I'm around her, it's impossible for me to relax. I jump up on the plane's wing so I can talk to her, face to face.

"Hey, Carrie," I say awkwardly due to the embarrassment of havin' an audience to our conversation. I glance in the direction of Goose, waiting for him to understand why I was staring at him.

"I have a girlfriend." Goose blurts out, randomly.

"That's, uh, nice," Carrie replies. Eventually, Red of all people gets the message.
