Danny's POV
The car comes to a screeching stop. Apparently, the Japs haven't gotten to this one yet. This gives us a small advantage which gives us a little bit of hope.
"Earl! We need planes now!" I yelled, sprinting up to him.
"Alright, well, I got four planes. She's down, she's shit, she's broke. I have one good to go, one needs ammo and two need fuel." Earl rambles.
"Alright, y'all heard the man! We need to get those birds in the air!" I yelled at the men who were just standing around. However, before any of us could move, we all heard the sound of planes. Earl grabbed a nearby shotgun and just started shootin' up at the planes and yellin' like a mad man.
"Earl! What the hell?!? We're tryin' to not draw attention to ourselves. They're gonna blow this hangar wide open!" I yell. Rafe brushes past me and walks straight towards Earl. Rafe grabs Earl by the shoulders and turns him to where they are making eye contact.
"Earl. You need to get me in a goddamn plan." Rafe hisses through clenched teeth.
"Alright. Everyone, get to work on the planes. There are also some guns in the weapon's locker for the few of y'all who aren't gonna be flyin'." Earl calls to the squadron.
"I just hope we can get these planes in the air in time." Joey murmurs next to me.
"Me too, Joey. Me too." I mumble back.
Carol's POV
Growing up with Danny and Rafe, I have learned that you shouldn't go lookin' for trouble. At least there was no need to. Whenever I was with Danny and Rafe, I always knew trouble wasn't too far behind. Never did I ever imagine that I would be in trouble alone. Without any help, or rather, without anyone to back me up. I never thought I would feel completely alone and helpless. There's a constant ringing in my ears as I slowly open my eyes. My head is pounding from the impact of being hit by something. I look up to the blue sky that is dotted with grey clouds. The view of such a brilliant blue usually calms me, however the sight of high-level bombers and 37's cause a sudden wave of terror to wrack through my body. I attempt to move, but a shock of pain stops me from moving any further. I slowly lift my head to look down at my feet, but I can't see them. A large piece of shrapnel is weighing down on my torso and blocking my view of my lower half. I can feel all the color drain from my face. This is not good. I frantically begin to wriggle myself in an attempt to get free, but it only causes more white-hot searing pain to explode through my body. I feel tears well up in my eyes, making my vision blurry. This can't be how I die. It just can't be. I am brought from my thoughts when I hear someone yell. I was still disoriented so I couldn't make what they were sayin'. However, the sounds of a low plane quickly answered any doubts I heard what the yellin' was about. A rain of bullets came down the beach. I quickly grabbed a small piece of metal to shield myself from the small balls of death. However, my nimble hands were shaking so bad I dropped my small shield and I was surrounded by darkness once again.
