PLOT:
Gwen Maria was a quiet Slytherin who never enjoyed the stereotypes made about her because of her House. She had witnessed the demise of her parents when she was just an infant, both choosing to serve Voldemort before betraying him, causing his followers to murder them in front of their newborn child. Voldemort decided to spare the girl, deeming her useful in the future and hoping that she would not take the same path as her parents.
Gwen was placed into the foster care system, and she resided with a muggle family who were thoroughly shocked when she began exhibiting signs of magic. After being sorted into Slytherin at Hogwarts, she found herself hating the rest of her classmates — only seeing them as carbon copies of her parents.
And she hated her parents for leaving her alone. How could they expect their daughter to continue living when the rest of the world simply sees her as another Slytherin who would become a Death Eater as soon as she got the chance?
So, when she becomes approached with the prospect of Harry Potter forming his own Defense class, she faces an internal battle with her own self. She cannot decide on whether to follow the path that had already been drawn for her, or go against all odds and risk ending up like her parents.
Gwen is troubled by these decisions, and she desperately needs help on how to decide the course of her fate. Luckily for her, Ron Weasley was willing to put aside his prejudices against Slytherins just this once.
SUMMARY: Ever since her parents' decision to become Death Eaters, Gwen Maria has had a target painted on her back. Her future has already been decided for her along with the rest of her Slytherin classmates — they would all accept the fate of their parents, and fall into the leadership of Lord Voldemort. Gwen simply refuses to accept the fact that this is her life, but the universe disregards giving her another choice. However, Hermione Granger witnesses her internal struggle during their classes together and invites Gwen into joining their Defense classes. Ron Weasley is appalled by Hermione's offer, especially considering Gwen is a Slytherin, but Hermione assures him that he should get to know the girl better and see the true nature of her heart. Ron soon learns that despite all of the assumptions made about her, Gwen is a warm, beautiful human being who did not deserve the path that was laid out for her.
