Quintessence

Captivating, brown orbs glow
With a playful spark,
That lights up a space so dark,
With an unearthly halo.

Eyes crinkled in mirth –
Elated from his succesful ploy –
Slowly gazes down, feeling coy
And my heart soars away, from Earth.

My breath catches,
As the apples of his cheeks gets more defined;
I look down to see the broken confines,
That once had my heart in its clutches.

I lock my heart in, again;
But, can't help but notice the dimples
His lips form, as they curve up in half-circles;
And my heart reaches out, forgetting it's pain.

I gaze at his heartstopping smile; his outstretched hand,
My heart tugs at me; tired from the lack
Of Love; but, the pain holds me back,
Warning me that it's all built of sand.

Internal conflict arises as I turn away,
Along with a feeling of loss;
His smiling face flits across
My mind, making my decision sway.

I turn back and shake his hand,
And his whole face glows so ethereally
As light filters through my cracks slowly
And jerks me awake from a life so bland.

For others, it was just a smile, so usual.
But, for me, it was a Love so Quintessential.
